Listen: Deaton Trump, Democrats, President Trump discussed on Meet the Press: The Lid
"Welcome to the live from meet the press. I'm Kerry Dan. Let's start today with a very very brief rundown of just some of the things that have happened in American politics since last November. You're ready and a government shutdown. Remember that two dozen or so Democratic candidates saying they're going to run for president. The release of the Miller report the escalation of the trade war the official launch of trump's reelection in campaign to democratic debates a slew of Republican retirements a bunch of two thousand twenty candidates dropping out El Paso than Deaton trump versus Elijah Cummings trump versus the squad trump versus Chrissy teigen trump versus the weather the list goes on and on and on and feels like a lot. It's exhausting. I'm tired just thinking about it and here's something we learned after yesterday's special election in North Carolina's ninth district after all of those things that I just mentioned the political environment feels kind of the same as it did last last November Democrat Dan McCready narrowly lost in a district that went heavily for trump just like he did in two thousand eighteen before the results of that race were thrown out due to allegations of ballot tampering by a Republican operative and that North Carolina race was pretty much a Redo of all the dynamics nationwide side in two thousand eighteen with Democrats running on healthcare and really not wanting to talk all that much about trump and all the rest of that stuff that I mentioned so oh it was a lot of sound and fury for essentially the same results what's more the president's approval rating remains pretty pretty much where it's been for almost all of his presidency which is mired in or below the forties really apart from the fact that there's a full-blown Democratic primary brawl underway most of the rest of the political environment feels about same Republicans are still nervous about losing suburban voters but the bottom hasn't fallen out yet congressional. Democrats still trying to get their act together about impeachment and all that stuff while most of the candidates on the stump are. We're still trying to avoid the topic gun. Legislation still stalled the White House still seeing massive chaotic turnover. That's now so frequent. It's becoming routine. It all feels as stuck in place as that baby shark song. Get stuck in your head immediately after hearing it now of course things will be different when there's more clarity about who the Democratic nominee will be and what consequences that might have down the ballot right things things have to be different but for the meantime general disarray at the administration level gridlock at the congressional level and unchanged political dynamics that makes the campaign level still seem to be yeah. This baby affected baby. I'm sorry guys after listening to that. I should not have done that. Sorry that's a lead for us.
