Listen: Golden Girls House, MIT, Youtube discussed on Relevant Podcast
"Bring it back on focus but also does does this haptic late. It sends a little physical nudge to your brain as well that you feel Oughta. Let you know that you've stopped focusing a little a little bump that one's called so that sounds a little bit invasive to me. Obviously it but as long as you pay attention I guess it's not that big of a deal so I'm curious about what you guys feel like. Maybe the moral if there's any moral issue issue or or with the the level of of potential invasion going on here with this pair of glasses that can monitor that can read your mind and and let both you and obviously people like your instructors know when you are when you're mind's wandering. I I'll go first though I saw paying attention almost immediately really so. I don't even know what we're talking. Let me ask you. Can you start from the top. No I mean it does seem like listen listen. I don't think it's a big surprise to anyone who is living in modern times that attention spans are are quickly shortening like I get it yeah yeah so. Do I mean I mean. I can't even watch like if I see a youtube video. I mean you know Tyler you and I in particular always hunting for interesting content and interesting things to a AH posts and share and hopefully sparked discussions about but if I see youtube videos over two minutes. I'm like two minutes. I don't have the day off today so here. I'm not like it's hard for me. I don't even I I like going to movies more more than I like watching movies at home because sometimes I like have trouble sitting through an entire movie. I'm watching a movie home. I'm doing something else. I'm on my phone. I'm on pinterest unfold laundry. I've never just watching it. Maybe like I do it and maybe but I think the applications of it seemed to be professional and academic right like if you're locked into doing something but I've Divi I mean. It always starts that way right. They always tell you like I said Oh. We're just going to use it to make sure that you that you've finished. Should the the class that maybe you're going your way. That's how it starts but but it's not gonna stay there like there's no there's no oversight body at MIT to make sure that they they keep using it for this and only this purpose. I think it solves a problem in a like such an invasive way like invasive way but I think it also along with like are declining attention spans. I think you know obviously. Mit in Silicon Valley there are so many places that let's see the purpose of day as efficiency you know again in Silicon Valley in addition to APPs that heightened efficiency and you yeah you hear these stories and if you watch the valley of you know people working through the night you know night after night and figuring out ways to sleep less or like Jack Dorsey limiting his his diet to like three items so that it's less time like making decisions or Steve Job. He wore the same thing every day because there's an efficient way to dress and approach the world like I. I don't have to think about what I'm going to wear. It could be more mind power and time spent doing work or even like sold like that. Silicon Valley Weird you you know shake that is like a meal replacement thing where you can drink this and not wayside eating. I think what aside from the invasion invasiveness Jason this technology which is actually chiming the bones under your flash. I don't think I don't know if you can think of anything more invasive than that. I think it also also is like sad commentary concerning commentary on the idol of efficiency that we have in culture like if I'm working. I'm I'm going to be officiant but I also realized that. The creative process looks different for different people and you know like if you if you never stop and run rundown a rabbit trail then you really gonna limit your ability to think in outside the box weighs and you know if you don't take time them to sit down and have breakfast in the morning or if you don't or to strike up a conversation or you know to even even while. Oh you're you're working. It's really easy to say well. I'm not going to answer any of my chats because I'm only going to do this. One thing and I'll move onto this other thing this. I've I've developed. I've realized that becomes problematic for me. Because what what what happens is it creates anxiety because you create these kind of false milestones when you're really when if you realize like hey if I moved through the ebb and flow of my day I will. I can work in way way. I get way more done so even though I'm not like monitoring like efficiency agency with some device. It's like Oh different minds work different ways and that's okay mic especially when you're working in a field that's creative or involves collaboration. If if I close my chat window and say I'm blocking out for the next hour. I'll catch up later that that's the pro that becomes a problem because I'm putting some arbitrary deadline over conversations with with my colleagues that could help in the collaboration ages. I don't know Kinda rambling here at this point but I I I just think like it's emblematic of a problematic bobble matic problem like it seems like a symptom of a greater problem there might be times yeah and this is designed for very for one extremely specific type hype of of what we call productivity and obviously it's the one that we've put the highest premium on here in the US but it still doesn't make room for we don't have technology that can that can and tell us. Maybe you're thinking about something. That's that's different or better or more important for your productivity in a different direction than what's being taught in in your class right now or in this article that you're supposed to be reading and until we didn't develop that technology then. I'm not sure that the this use of this seems extremely streamline narrow tonight is specific field but one specific type of person would have any drummer gentlemen. I've got to you for wall along. I'm very proud of myself. The first one I'm kind of disappointed and he's not here because I kind of founded in honor of something. I thought he would love here it. Eventually you guys in Ardmore Oklahoma. This is a fast twofer avert in Ardmore Oklahoma. There is an AIRBNB that is golden. Girls Seemed House. It is an entire house. They'd like the show golden girls. It is actually on Blanche's childhood property okay so you can stay there that area be. There's a ninety nine percent chance you're going to be murdered by a serial killer wearing no. It's so funny every decorated just like it was in golden girls. There's framed pictures of all the women all over the house so I'm just saying for anyone who wants to stay halfway between Oklahoma City and Dallas just search for the Golden Golden Girl Guest House and it is available sleep by a floral other net. That's exactly right. That's exactly right okay so speaking a camera in your face. What is your face say right now. I'm literally thinking about how cool it would be. If more people did this like if I want to say in Oklahoma in that house I I would want to stay in Miami if there was a share house in Miami that was exactly the Golden Girls House is there is no amount of money I would absolutely incredible but I'm thinking about how many other iconic houses like the Brady Bunch House yes so whatever like that we could stay in like if you could say in like Manhattan apartment and it looks just site Jerry's Jerry by the friends thing because they didn't change you. GotTa go look at it came around. They didn't change the way they didn't change the walls so it's it's not a replica but every room saying Millar build a replica like a Motif. I I want the actual house like Jerry the Simpsons House lay out. How can you imagine what it would be because because the way they shoot these shows with the with the third wall gone they all. They all feel a lot bigger than they would in real life you know so we all walk in and go oh. This is too small. You know what I mean like accurate you know we should do. I think it reminds me the select hotel chain we should. We should absolutely okay somebody with a lot of money. Go do that role house in San Francisco being more but this reminds this cut but we watched it together in the Netflix series. I think you should leave now like the kind of surreal has comedy series Pearl last episode. The whole bit is one of the these co worker curses. This people work with Jim Davis House Garfield Creator everything in it is highly Garfield play. La Yeah but the joke is at the NFL dot actually Jim Davis and it really is a serial killer. It is a very okay so here's the second part of my to it ties so directly okay while there is a beautiful golden girls house available for you to rent. The bad news is that millennials aren't going on vacation. Research says that this fifty five percent of millennials say they don't go on vacation didn't go on vacation in two thousand eighteen because of financial reasons because of bills and student debt and how Pricey it is to do a vacation. I think we all grew up not realizing how expensive it was. When our parents took us on vacation and then you get to be a grown up and over half of our friends decide. I'm not going to go on vacation because it costs so much which is very sad but yeah I was gonna say but there are ways to travel all like without spending without doing Ritchie Yeah Yeah. You're GONNA do it. If you're like motivated. You know yeah totally in fact it says seventy-six percent of millennials are trying to save money for travel but they expect their travel budget to be under a thousand dollars in most of them say it ends up when you actually travel when actually you actually budget out the trip it's over two thousand dollars and so they don't have enough and so that it says seventy four percent of colonials wish they could save more money to spend on vacations and thirty seven percent say they have gone into vacation related debt debt guys on it at that over vacation. Just go to Golden Girls House so so cheap. I feel like they're luring people there. I everything I've learned about the Golden Rose Bryce. You actually fly you out there. Oh gentlemen who is the proprietor feels like a trap hit feels like he's paying me to come stay there. This feels a little weird.."
