Raimondo resigns after winning Senate confirmation as U.S. commerce secretary
News tonight out of Rhode Island, where Governor Gina Raimondo moments ago officially resigned. That's because earlier today the Senate confirmed her to serve as president. Biden's Commerce secretary, Lieutenant Governor Daniel McKee will now be stepping in to take her place. Resignation letter tonight. Raimondo says she has utmost confidence in Maquis, now her nomination to be commerce secretary past today on an 84 to 15 vote. Republicans opposed to her confirmation say they were worried Romano wouldn't be forceful enough to confront the Chinese and the Chinese efforts to get an economic and technological edge through spying. Supporters of reminder, though, said they liked the fact that she has private sector experience. And she has shown she can match up workers with new economic opportunities like renewable energies again.
