Listen: President, David Drucker And John discussed on John Batchelor
"Danger that if the president's speech and the president says this. Don't connect with voters that over time. People will end up blaming him rather than Nancy Pelosi who's just taken office. I think the president though has a very good out for himself. If he's if his numbers, go south, politically legal experts pretty much agree that there's enough unallocated construction money in the Pentagon budget, the president can declare a national crisis or emergency allocate that money and start building something, and then he can say, well, I'm doing this because the Democrats dug in and wouldn't compromise and they wouldn't spend a penny on border security. So we all know where they stand. So the president is I think the president is in greater danger, politically, but he has an exit ramp that he can take any time he wants. And if he does take that I think he will come out ahead, politically, Mr. McCotter, gentlemen, do the Democrats have an exit ramp, David. Yeah. They're exit ramp passed a spending Bill and and off the amount of money and say, it's not for the wall. And then, you know, dare the president to reject an increased amount of a border security money, basically meeting or exceeding the amount that he's asked for it. Just don't allocated for his wall. That's not a bad exit ramp there. You know, I think before we worry that ranch. You have to understand what the contours of your problem are. So you you have to sort of see what it is that voters wants review, and ultimately usually shut down again because they don't have much to do with policy. It's just about the silliness. And the ridiculousness of the government shutdown. That's how voters tend to look at it when they're upset. You actually don't need to do all of them ended, and then you can sort of go back to normal as long as you have fatally injured yourself, John. I agree with David. And of course, you know, we had phony wars during World War Two. We this is a phony shutdown. This is the shutdown. We're both the president and the congress are informally conspiring behind the scenes to make sure there's this little impact on the general public as possible while they carry out their posturing, and so far both sides seem happy with how it's going because they can score their points gentleman. We turned out television, which I know very little about. I don't watch it. And it seems recently have turned tragic because of CBS so I don't wanna make light of television. But there seems to be a debate somewhere tonight that the president of the United States should or should not get airtime. Tomorrow to address the nation and MRs polos, Ian, Charles Schumer, Mr. Schumer should or should not give airtime. David zip profound struggle in Washington that the Democrats want to get on air and not let alone. Let the president speak for himself as it strikes me as extraordinarily demand equal time where the president's making national security statement. Well, I think under normal circumstances, John that would be a salient point. But the president is going to go on the air to make a political in a policy point in the middle of political and policy fight with the opposition. And so I think it's actually warranted. They should at least request equal time. Any honestly, I've been joking all day that they should just move up the state of the union or call the debt, that's essentially what we're dealing with tomorrow. I mean, normally the president will a president will address the nation from the Oval Office, you'll have something of an import to announce it. It'll be more about president making news on a major change of direction for the country. But won't really be about the opposition in his position vis-a-vis the opposition party in a disagreement in policy, but that's not what we're dealing with here. So I don't know what the networks are gonna do. Most of them are going to carry the president's speech. And I'm not sure how they're gonna handle leak with people time requests. But this is one of those cases where I think the request is understandable. John. I agree. Obviously equal time. That would be preposterous. You after a state of union message, usually the other party gets three to five minutes. And I think the Democrats would be happy to get something like that it would create an interesting precedent, though. Because if the networks do granted once they're going to be in danger of grinding it over and over again every time the president addresses because Donald Trump is so divisive. A pattern will have been set finally gentlemen just last week. I think I was debating with the foundation of the defense of democracy, the dot consequences of the US withdraw from Syria this week. I believe that is no longer debate this relevant. David did something happened over the holidays that I missed. We're no longer withdrawing from Syria. It's conditional it could take years, and if I follow John Bolton correctly, the conditions are probably impossible to be met because the Turks have to make a promise. So you're right. The debate is no move. But I don't know if you know that that's the case we we don't. We don't know because you never know what the president's thinking or saying at any given time and he's often panther addicting his age or they are contradicting him. So I think we're just gonna have to see where this goes, and how long this apparent change of direction last John General Mattis was going to leave the Pentagon at the end of the term. I believe February was his exit date. He has now resigned over a policy that doesn't exist. Obviously didn't know Donald Trump as well as we thought if he had he would have recognized that if Donald Trump announces a policy, wait five minutes, there might be another policy. Thaddeus, you and I spend many years talking to John Bolton. I like the cool way handle it. I puzzled at the time how the national security advisor could Laura's his head except the sudden withdrawal from Syria having committed in as national security advisor, the policy that we had to stay there to block the land bridge Bolton just goes with real and changes, the terms wonderful ambassador, bald national security advisor bulletin just merely clarified and refined the president's enunciated policy. Yes. Very nice lawyer fascist that is mccarter WJR. The great voice of the Great Lakes. John fund, the national review, allied and Fox News, David Drucker of CNN in Washington Examiner. Well, we come back. It's twenty nine thousand nine that means there's a presidential contest underway. We will speak of Elizabeth Warren"
