Listen: Chicago, Rams And Bears discussed on WGR Programming
"Football should be a good one coming up tomorrow night Jonathan in Chicago the Chicago Bears against the Los Angeles Rams bears at a tough loss against the giants last week, but they're going to get Mitchell Trubisky back at quarterback versus the Rams. And if the bears wanna be considered among the best in the NFC, you beat the Rams at home that would be quite an accomplishment for a Chicago team that most people think ahead of schedule anyways to things I was thinking about coming into this game that we're gonna see Sunday night. One thing. One of the storyline. Should be from Mitchell Trubisky standpoint is it rest or is it rust coming from the injury. The supper several weeks ago he's been away for two weeks. So we're gonna find out exactly what Trubisky will be made of against this defense for the ramp. That's one thing. The other thing is from Chicago standpoint. And from the ram standpoint L A look at this is this a big test or a big game. I think for both teams. It's a big test in the reason why is because. From Chicago standpoint, we look at what Matt Nagy has done as a head coach. And I believe the RPO system is working to an extent. However, when you see the high-octane offenses of Kansas City and New Orleans, and what we see from L A. I think it's another level than what Chicago's doing it made Chicago's emerging. But are there on that level? Just as of yet, maybe things will change on Sunday night from L A standpoint, L LA has just been a fine. Well, oiled machine to terrific games. They've had. I also think that as they move forward. How they look at this game. I think for both. It's like a test more so than, wow, look, how big this game could be because this doesn't feel like Kansas City LA it just feels like Chicago trying to get to L as level. I agree with you for the bears. It's a measuring stick game. But now if you want to ask the question, what does this game mean for the Rams, I think it's a very? Big game for the Rams because I think the Rams are going to see the bears in the playoffs in that game will be in Los Angeles. If you could go on the road and beat them in prime time in Chicago at Soldier Field. How much confidence then will you have that you can beat them at home in the postseason? I think there was a big psychological angle to this game here. And I think the Rams are right now the better team, certainly, but the bears have have hung tough this year. That's a very opportunistic defense. They gotta be very careful with Khalil Mack. The way akiem Hicks us playing the way Eddie Jackson is playing roquan. Smith is starting to look like a guy that might contend for a defensive rookie of the year award. I think Chicago has a chance, but with Trubisky. I think the time off to games that they right shoulder injury Jonathan yes, I think the two weeks off will help his legs. Very fresh legs going to go up against that Rams defense. And you'd better have fresh legs have Aaron Donald trying to chase you down and kill ya. You better run. But I think there will be a rough factor. But remember what the bears do? So. Well, what I know. The Rams do so well with Sean McVay and the saints with Sean Payton in their chiefs with Andy Reid when you script out your first twenty to twenty five plays that helps you with the Russ factor doesn't it because trubisky's had chance to run these plays all week in practice. So I think you'll get rusty when that breaks down in the second half. But I would not be surprised at all. If Trubisky plays really well early in the game and the bears offense scores two points in the first half that wouldn't surprise me one bit. I think the one thing I'm looking forward to seeing is this from Chicago standpoint because this is not a golf issue with the Rams, but I think it is with with Chicago any time that Trubisky goes back to. To pass and if his first progression, and he sees Robinson or Gabriel. Someone else is tied up, and they can't break free Trubisky brings the ball down at runs with the football. As you know is I know in many, no when you're riding with the football as often as Trubisky was doing yes, it's a weapon. Yes. It can be able to extend plays. Yes. He can get you some first downs. But also get you hurt as we see right here. Exhibit aid was going on what Trubisky? I wanna know how quickly Trubisky get the ball out because we know it's going to get out quickly with the Rams. There's no doubt. Even with a strong top five defense. Like, Chicago has I wanna know how quickly Trubisky you'll be able to read the defense and get the ball out to his receivers without having to panic have happy feet and then run with the football. That's and there there's the rest versus Russ issue. I'm looking at here, the the rust is saying man, it cannot be able to pick up on the receivers as quickly as I can. I mean time will tell but I'm looking forward to. Seeing that aspect of it. He better get the ball quickly because that pocket collapses from the inside out with Aaron that's not a good thing for any quarterback, you seriously, you have you have Choo guys who could make a legitimate claim for not just defensive player of the year but league MVP in Aaron Donald and Khalil Mack. Yes. Both playing on the same field on Sunday night. There's a ton of angles and look for as I mean, Sean McVeigh is after Andy Reid is the gold standard right now for playcallers in this league along with Sean Payton, Matt Nagy of Chicago's a first year head coach he's not there yet. But don't think for a second that he doesn't wanna show the world, and Sean McVeigh that he's a pretty darn good play collartoo this great angles for this game tomorrow night. It's a lot of razzle dazzle for Chicago. There is a ton. You know, we used to say, right? We don't look at it now because of RPO systems and how there's so many different ways able score who to save what you had to be tricked blades got a good football team. And then definitely the case which icago because I think that Nagy mix it fun by being able to say, let's do the the freezer refrigerator Perry play with Akeem Hicks. Let's be able to put a alignment out wide. Let's put two quarterbacks in the field. The same time doing that this year as well. I think he keeps the offense loose and unpredictable. And that's where defenses are like. Okay. What are they doing? Now. I've never seen this before. And I think that that makes it fun. I think for the viewer end for the team the bears used to have a hard time running a three yard hitch. Now, it's a little different in Chicago. Sticker Senate hood on ESPN radio and the ESPN app. Another good game tomorrow chiefs in ravens the ravens look like geniuses. Thank you Baltimore for drafting Lamar Jackson when you still had thought was a serviceable quarterback a veteran guy in place. What the giants did not do. It's what Jacksonville did not do. Instead getting an extension to Blake Bortles. Now. Look what happens, my friend. The flacco era is over Baltimore is Lamar Jackson show now. And that's going to be. I think a very interesting game for the chiefs because they don't defend the run. Well, and there's no quarterback at the game. That runs the ball better at this moment, then Lamar Jackson. No doubt. However, there's limitations to that. Yes. The team looks much better at seven five. There's no doubt. But I'm wondering whether or not there's another gear in Jackson's delivery. He goes back to what we just talked about in the last game. The ravens the ravens running game as thrive with Jackson starting averaging shorter three. Nine yards per game. Which is great. And they've dominate the time of possession in contests. And of course, this may not happen against Kansas City. But you have to talk about the ravens as they are right now. They are terrific. However, two things one you could just tell the Joe flacco career with Baltimore was coming to an end as soon as Mark Trestman had them for a year as offensive coordinator, hue you knew that the end. Will trust as the cloak and dagger of Trestman ruined flacco, that's one. But two is that with the ravens? Yes, it is a different dynamic offensively. It moves faster. He brings a different dynamic than flacco brings. That's totally true. I'm wondering though, is that is there another level to Jackson that we can see maybe not this year. But in years to come, oh, he needs every rep you can get right now he's got to play and he'll be better next year having gone through this. I never thought that the you could really kind of link up the demise of Joe flacco coinciding with the ravens hiring the recently fired Mark trust the CFL treasury won the Grey Cup last year. So he's like a legend in the CFO. And then they fired him again. So yes, I think you make a good point there. Thank you, sir. Some interesting comments this week in the NBA from Kevin Durant, and Joel Embiid or sort through those coming up next Dickerson and hood, it's ESPN radio. Having."
