Listen: Donald Trump, Robert Muller And Doug Sovereign discussed on KCBS Radio Afternoon News
"Well, as we've been reporting a series of memos from federal prosecutors today implicate president tr. Trump in a criminal conspiracy and reject leniency for his former personal lawyer KCBS political reporter Doug sovereign joins us live in the news center to break down. What it all could be Patty, and Jeff three memos released late in the day on a Friday back east came from special counsel, Robert Muller in the acting US attorney in New York, the New York, prosecutors say the president's former attorney and fixer Michael Cohen has exaggerated his cooperation with them and should still go to prison for up to four years you see Hastings law. Professor ROY little says the memo trashes Cohen for being motivated by greed ambition, and now just trying to save his own skin. They don't feel that he did anything more than finally admit guilt after they basically showed in the evidence that showed that he was going to be found guilty whether admitted it or not the bombshell buried in the memo is that prosecutors say Coen's illegal hush money payments to two women who claimed affairs with Donald Trump were coordinated with and directed by Trump himself identified in the memoirs individual. Well, one that suggests that they have evidence to corroborate Cohen admitting that he and the man who became president engaged in a criminal conspiracy, led by Trump Muller's memo goes easier on coinciding, he has cooperated with that investigation in a significant way. And that any prison time he gets for lying to congress should be served concurrently with the term that a judge in New York will give him next Wednesday guidelines of something like four to five years and everyone's recommending to be get a little less than that. But my prediction is coming down. Jail in a separate memo. Mahler outlines a series of lies on five different topics told by former Trump campaign manager, Paul Manafort to justify revoking manafort's plea bargain live in the news center. Doug, sovereign KCBS. Let me circle back to something. You said there the implication that individual one was of course, Donald Trump at this point. We know that connection that connection though, does not necessarily suggest that the prosecutor is going to go after Trump himself. No, it doesn't end just to actually circle back even farther to something. You asked me last hour, he's not named by name as individual one in in this document or any of the documents. But it does say individual one who later became president of the United States. That's what it narrows it down. So there's only one of those right now. So that would be Donald Trump, and he's been described as individual one and all these other documents. No. And you know, the the finding has been consistently that you cannot indict a sitting president. So and there's been nothing to suggest that Muller will challenge that. So the assumption is he won't that he will just put together a report. And if he finds criminal. Wrongdoing. What's this certainly suggests he's going to by Donald Trump either before or since he became president. He'll include that in his report, which would go to the attorney general right now. It's acting attorney general Whitaker it could soon be way embar who could then referred onto congress. And that's as we understand it as the way that process will work. Thanks so much that is KCBS political reporter, Doug sovereign a lot of people prefer texting to calling. And that includes getting crisis counseling. Help KCBS is Mike Kogen is says that with that in mind Santa Clara county is launched a text based service for those who are emotionally or mentally distressed south bay.."
