"The Los Angeles. Chargers who are nine and three and still trying to win the AFC west is they're battling up against the Kansas City Chiefs. And what a statement at was in Pittsburgh really tailored to pass last weekend down big in the first they come back and they get the victory. Thirty three to thirty now up for the chargers is coming up on Sunday is a match up at home against the Cincinnati Bengals. And we'll see how fair up against the Bengals who are really struggling after. What was a good start to the season? Let's welcome in a third year. Linebacker for the Los Angeles chargers. And that's your tavis Brown is kind enough to join us right now on CBS sports radio Getafe, visit sack yelp here in New York City. Appreciate a few minutes. And how are you? No problem. Good. Thank you. Well, thank you for coming on. So how did this team turn it around in the second half? Because when you went into the locker room it was twenty three to seven the Steelers just scored a touchdown. But then like I said you win the football game thirty three to thirty. Just a monster. In the locker room this. We knew what we capable of. We know what we can do. And we just had to go on ask you and do what we do a big part of this story this year in the NFL has been a team in your division the Kansas City Chiefs, and you played them week one. And you did lose the football game. The feel like even though you guys are nine and three and you're right in this race to win the division. Still. Do you feel like this team isn't getting the respect that it deserves me? I honestly we we don't really care what we know what kind of team we have. And we just always on their door. We doing and competed Halloween every week when this team got off to that one in to start. And we know the the perception about the charges that they get off to these slow starts each and every year when they got off to the one in to start, and then you're able to turn around in the last nine going eight and one just had this team. Turn it around to get to the record that you are an today. I'll tell you. There's a huge accomplishment by the coaches and the players putting together great game every week and just going to ask you. Coach in the player when you had those first three games where you had a loss to Kansas City. Then you beat the bills before losing to the Rams just the coaches what had some of the leaders say in the locker room about turning this thing around hopefully, the beginning. It was the beginning of the year. And you know, we had a lot of the season the place just to get on track and get to what we do. James Brown is my guest right now on CBS sports radio. What does it mean to this team to get Joey Bosa backup now in return for the last three games? Oh, man. That's a huge bonus. I mean just to have him back and just having my body prisoners, and what he brings this is huge to have how difficult was that? Now playing without him early on and still trying to find your own with this defense law me, I mean, we had guys step up. There was able to to fill in for him. But you know, Joe is JoAnne who with him out. There is a big. Plus now tell you something that's really impressed me. And is impressed. The entire National Football League has been the rookie Derwin James just what about the play of Derwin James, I only to play this. Well, but especially in your number one. Oh, man. He's a baller, man. That guy he loved the game you to go out and compete at a high level. You would just tell he love again, he brings so much energy and a whole lot of talking. What is he like as a professional and a teammate away from the field? Oh, man. He's a great guy man is smart guy. Low put little talk about ball like myself always talking about ball. And just enjoy the whole always the game football. Did you realize that he would have this potential of a season the minute when you met him was it evident right when you met him? Of course, he was from the beginning got he was making plays. And it just seemed like a natural to him. So he always showed up play play making the third year. Linebacker for the chargers, you tavis Brown is my guest right now on CBS sports radio. Getafe is for you. Personally. How has your game now grown your number three? Say my my. Manali? Guys are trying to do to us. The beef is how they are trying to tackle the defenders. My understanding them that is way better. And you look at your first year statistically, you're able to have some success even as a fifth round draft pick right away here. Number one, just coming out of Akron. How is that transition? Just so easy for you. Because the numbers that they back it up you've been having a lot of success in this league. Right. I mean, just you know, my love for the game coming up I helped me out a little bit. And then guys when I came in guys took me in and just helped me learn the system so occurred it to those guys, how'd you end up at Akron. And that was the best off. I had come in high school. And it's amazing because you're a two star recruit you registered three hundred and forty tackles in college more than half tackles for loss sixteen and a half sacks, instill you. You're only a fifth round draft pick just how frustrating was the draft process for you. Kinda oh our relive that. But you know, it is what it was. I'm glad to be in grad a bit charter show. You know, what it is? I'm over that now, but to those experiences what happened, you know, ended up at Akron and and being passed over weight into the fifth round. Does it put a little chip on your shoulder? Make you be the player that you are today. Oh, of course. But you know, as I'm blessed to be able to be here. We'll just to go on and do what I love. So. Tell us a little bit about your journey though about how you ended up in the league. And and what it takes to be in this spot. You know plan what you're doing right now with the chargers, I think a lot of sacrifice hard work, and this another grind put it into this to get where we just this is my little for the game grown up as a kid was the goal always to get to the NFL. Of course, always great passionate. And when do you remember I picking up a football or watching football as a kid when I was I started playing when I was about shakes. So when I was six years old. But I was sure I was playing before that. And then who was some of the players who was your team that that you really looked up to as a kid with the players and team that that you are a fan of growing more small shopping, and I'll tell you running back early only life when I was a big Marsh? Volcano in not trying to Salambak it was Lewis and Patrick Willis. How did you play as a running back as a kid? I was pretty decent. I was coming in the Miyagi always trying to run people in you know, I can make a couple how difficult would it be? Tacky. And now known it from the other end. Pretty difficult when I bring game. Game. So how did you make the transition to linebacker? What was it for you? Funny story. I remember running back, and it was older guy that moved down from Washington JV. He was getting a lot of road running back. And I was kind of got pushed to the side coaches in I decided to go to linebacker just hit that guy was over there. Is it funny now looking back at it that now you're in the NFL, and you see the way what happened in high school? Oh, yeah. This is funny. I just. It was meant to be. What did you know that you can make it to the league? Honestly, I always believe I could always been this always been in golden mine. It's always been where I wanna be in to be. Here's a bus wrapping up budget Davis Brown right now on CBS sports radio. What's the vibe around this team because it's been a fun story this year watching you guys? Call man. Players. We we enjoy coming to work coaches. Enjoy coming to where we just enjoy each other. And now, you're number two being in Los Angeles. What is that like? Everybody seemed to be adjusted now, and then just counting going like, no never have. And you know, so much is made of the homefield advantage or lack of home field advantage. I should say with the chargers being out in LA. What's your take? When it comes to the homefield advantage discussion with you guys playing at the stubhub center. Go out there. And we didn't do what we do. We we don't let that signals on how we play. Does it help you at all though when you go on the road? I don't know. I don't know. I don't over here. But her but all the same test on the way out with your tavis Brown. The third year linebacker right now on CBS sports radio for the Los Angeles. Chargers when the chargers hired Anthony lend your head football coach, I was really curious to see how we would be as the HCC your number one slow start. But then finished off really strong guys to win some ball games down the stretch. However now, and you're number two. You guys have found a little bit of a consistency. What you've been able to do nine and three take me on an inside view of of playing for coach Lynn out in LA. Also, you know, he's a he's a player's coach. He understand the game. He played a game. He knows exactly how the player says last one for Brown who joins us on CBS sports radio. It's exact yelp show. So when you see the bangles on film, they've been having a rough rough go at it these days, just what you see on the Bengals when you look at. A good team. You know, they don't show for. They got a great talent. They're good team. So we gotta we gotta bring it. We appreciate the time. Thanks so much best of luck. The rest of the way. I appreciate it. Appreciate your tavis Brown. Joining us right there on CBS sports radio that really be something after the career that he's had in that draft class when it comes to the chargers talk about quarterback, obviously in Philip rivers. It'd be really be something. This is finally the year that the chargers win a Super Bowl with Philip rivers because you have Big Ben with two with two rings as well Philip rivers statistically as a hall of fame quarterback statistically, but the one thing the one knock got him is he doesn't win the postseason doesn't have that ring. Now, it's not going to be easy with their schedule too. And the cheese scheduled to it's not gonna be easy to win this division. Again, get there on a game back you play the chiefs though, the Bengals I on a short week. This could be the year. If this is the very interesting, I'm still not buying full stock, and I and I picked the Super Bowl before the year. But after the way the seasons played out I would still go Kansas City in the pats right now and then everybody else. But the charges our team they keep on winning eight of their last nine. Very very impressive CBS the Super Bowl season. Continued Sunday with exciting regional action plan from wildcard positions are up for grabs in critical AFC match ups when Baltimore battles Patrick Mahomes in the chiefs. Andrew luck leads Indian USA take on the Texans and the Philip rivers the affirmation Philip rivers lead. Chargers host the Cincinnati. Bengals.
