Listen: National Football League, XFL And Football discussed on WEEI at Night
"Magical that was a great run. That's that's an all time right there. One of the great runs ineffable history. But how about the lack of effort by the Jacksonville Jaguars defender last night? I mean, come on. You're an NFL player. Yeah. He breaks through. He got the ball in his own one yard line and Derrick Henry is a load at two hundred and fifty pounds. You can run like a four four or five forty. I mean, I wouldn't want to get in front of him. But I'm not getting paid millions of dollars by an NFL franchise either. And that first defender who met him around me thirty yard line. I mean, come on. Put out the stiff arm and kind of slapped him to the side and the guy falls down right on his back. Then he continues down the sideline men around me. What was it right right around midfield? I think it was here comes another defender. And that's that's about as we can effort is I've ever seen. He kinda stood right in front of the they stood there and stared at each other for a second. They both stopped. And then again, he you-know-what slaps the guy out of the way stiff arm slap that guy goes out of bounds. That makes no effort to get back inbounds and and face him down. Then he heads down the left sideline. He's down to the thirty five thirty the twenty five and here's another defender who kind of makes a half ass grab at his shoulder. A another week attempt and Henry slaps his arm out of the way in straight arms him and goes in for a touchdown yet. One of the great runs ever. But I'm telling you what if I'm Doug Marrone the coach or the other Jacksonville Jaguars the there'd be some heavy fines for those guys last night on that was embarrassing. And there were a lot of member Dion Sanders used to call it a business decision. When they asked him. Why he never tackled anybody? He said it's a business decision. And I saw a lot of business decisions out there last night by the Jacksonville Jaguars. You had this two hundred fifty pound load coming at you like a freight train. I think a lot of those Jacksonville players were saying. We're four nine. I why why am I going to get in front of this guy? What what what's going to get us in the playoffs or something? Ole the old matador defense that wa- Tom Coughlin whose about as old school in his hardcore as you can get in the National Football League, the president of football operations. I mean, he he must have been blowing his stack up there in the press box. We got a check on him. I gotta make sure he's okay. Are there any reports the Tom Coughlin to the hospital right now recuperating? The veins are probably popping that he's not gonna tolerate this. That was a shocking lack of effort last night and a lack of will and business decisions and embarrassing for as much money. As those guys are making a state Smith air filling in for Keith NBC sports, wait on NBC, sports radio dot com. Eight five five three two three four NBC or hit me up on Twitter at Dave sports got. And now we have a third professional league starting up. We got the XFL with Vince McMahon. We've got the alliance of American football was Steve Spurrier, and and and Mike single coaching teams are now something called the freedom. Football league is also going to be starting up. Ten teams Ricky Williams, Carol Owens and fifty former players with a hundred shareholders. I mean, it's the odds of even one league succeeding or a million to one. Now, they've gonna they're going to have three all going up heads up in the spring against each other. But the af the alliance of American football gets the dump their starting out in February here and then supposedly in two thousand twenty the XFL and the and the freedom football league startup. And this boy, this is gonna be interesting. These two leagues butting heads with the XFL. You've got the Donald Trump supporter. Vince McMahon, wearing the maga- hats, and the maga- t-shirts and saying, you know, what my players will stand for the national anthem. It will not be they will not be nearly in my league. They'll be holding their helmets in their left hand, they'll be hands over their hearts in the right hand. And that's going to be like, you know, he he's a conservative Donald Trump supporting owner with the XFL. And then he got the freedom. Football league going heads up against them and Ricky Williamson and those players are saying, hey, you know, what when we played in the National Football League. We were told to shut up we were told not to address. A societal concerns and challenges we were told to ignore hot button issues. So evidently, that'll be a social Justice warrior league, and the players will be encouraged to kneel and encouraged to express themselves going ahead up against midst McMahon, and the XFL I think that a loans gonna make an interesting. Let's get out to the great city of New Orleans. And Jason what's up? Jason you're on with day Smith who radio. What's up Jason? Good. How are you? Have you been a little bit? You know? There's a lot of interesting. That are gonna be fun to watch this week. Dallas cowboys. Fun to watch. And be sure she annoying at times because there's fight. Like, you know, they got a game plan. No, they they are there. We lost the same time. We've got you know. Super Bowl can't go. And I thought they would be legitimate contenders. And. Choksi caution. It had a injury last year. You know that kind of held me back bed. The same time you come back from an injury. Like nothing's ever gonna be. Die hard Dallas fan. You gotta running back. You gotta. Things up. Still have a quarterback. Who is he's not. What was his job? Every time, you know, a couple of weeks ago, you're here in Dallas talk about you know, should get by. No or do people really want him coaching in Dallas because he wins a few games. Coaching? Thanks for the call Jason in New Orleans. Yeah. They won four in a row. I think now the Cowboys and you know, Dak Prescott. Good athlete playmaker. Get out there and make plays with its legs. Not the best thrower in the world. Although he had a pretty decent game against the saints. But he needs a strong running game. Now any quarterback. The best friend do an NFL quarterback is a good strong running game. And I don't think there's any greener evidence of that them in Orleans Saints the last couple of years heaven that one two punch of Mark Ingram in especially Alvin Kamara who's been a a godsend. I think what was he a fourth round pick her whenever he was out of Tennessee. I mean, what a steel for the New Orleans Saints there. They got one of the best players in the league such as effective catching the ball out of the backfield as he is running. And then you have the hammer with Mark Mark Ingram on the inside between the tackles. Now when you have to respect the running game. Now drew Brees has greater. He's already one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. You give them a running game like that come on. It's almost not fair. It's going to be video game numbers. But Dallas found a way to hold them to ten points last week. That's because as I said earlier about the Baltimore Ravens this week against the chiefs having the March Jackson the quarterback. The best defense against the great offense is not a brilliant game plan is not doing all kinds of things defensively. The best defense is keeping them off the field. See that's what the ravens are going to have to do against the chiefs. This weekend convert first downs keep the chains. Moving maybe Lamar drops back. Lamar Jackson and runs for a first down slides gets out of bounds. Whatever keeps that clock. Moving long sustained rise. What I wanna see is Patrick Mahomes wearing a baseball cap on the sideline. That's that's what I want to see if I'm John Harbaugh. Same thing. That's the philosophy of the Dallas Cowboys on thanksgiving against the saints. Last Thursday soothes me against the saints.."
