It was an election night for Democrats to remember in Virginia as they picked up at least two Senate and five house seats to gain control of both the house and Senate for the first time in a quarter century among the key races lost by Republicans the last GOP house seat in northern Virginia formerly held by Kim Hugo and the Senate seat vacated by retiring Republican Dick black Democrat John bell B. Gary Hagens to win that race high voter turnout in a late infusion of out of state cash helped push Democrats over the top but former governor Terry McAuliffe was quick to put the G. O.
