presented by twins pliers obviously final furlong back in front by three za approval is second then comes wilkinson at the rail but obviously is just too good he's just running faster than the other four obviously wire to wire in the shoemaker mile to finish now here's mike penna welcome back hour number three of this memorial weekend edition of the equine forum here on the horse racing radio network all presented by twins spires of course this a weekend to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and service to our country and we certainly do that and we we we talk about them quite often and we talk about what this weekend means it means a lot for those families i told the story earlier about getting to host some of the gold star families at the kentucky derby several years ago and that was one of the great things that i've ever been part of and so this weekend i hope that you take time to remember all of those who have given everything that they've had in service to our country remember their families as well our three of the equine forum continues with this week's twins spires triple play joe christofek going to join me to kick it off momentarily kurt becker has his stroll through racing history coming up at 10 20 and at 10 30 del roman's tim wilkins both going to be with me for a really what promises to be a really fun edition of i ask they answer so stay tuned for that but our three begins as it does every single week with the twins spires triple play as i mentioned joe christofek is with me he has three races you'll want to keep an eye on later today and when joe talks you better listen joe good morning hey good morning mike how are you good good i'm excited for the three races you've chosen they all come from churchill downs and they offer something for everybody i think and we begin with race number four which is a starter and it's interesting you don't often choose a small field when you do this twin spires triple play so i'm thinking you have your eye on a little bit of value here yeah no always and you can find value in in shorter field so you know i've got some bigger fields later some value i think uh that i found in those races as well so uh you know take what the races give you and you know i think uh last one was on was derby day we had a seven to two winner and we you know swung and missed on our other two but if we could show a profit we're happy about that yeah no doubt about it well let's talk about this fourth race um how'd you see it who do you think is a little bit of value in here uh well you look over the field and you see that somewhat evenly matched but i really like a horse by the name of honest spree who is stepping up in class he was claimed for 16 000 out of his last start you'll see the margin of victory was 12 and a quarter lengths and it was basically a public workout you see you see the short comment handily this has been a horse that has been popular at the claim box has been claimed five times over the course of the last 10 months or so he's run well on turf synthetic wet dirt that was his first ever win on fast dirt last out going seven furlongs joe sharps barn has been red hottie jumps this one into a starter condition here so protecting honest breed and i'm going to believe what i saw visually last out uh very very impressive win and i think he could do it again you know these conditions are always so interesting these starter allowance races trying to figure out who fits who doesn't from a condition perspective coming out of that 16 000 claiming race in that big win i guess you'd look at this as being a bit of a step up for this horse yeah it's a step up for sure but he's competed at higher levels in the past and you know that was a one turn race to mike and this is a two turn race but he's had plenty of two turn success in the past as well and you know joe sharps going to claim a horse for 16 and want to protect the horse that makes me feel extra confident like i said this head is ups and downs but he certainly appears to be headed in the right direction after that last win which barely took anything out of them yeah all right honest spree number two seven to two on the morning line in the fourth race to kick off this week's twin spires triple play from joe christofek joe you go later in the card with the next two races nine and ten and the ninth race is a six furlong sprint it's an optional claimer purse of 127 000 and we get a nine horse field of sprinters in here how'd you see it yeah the two elva star debuted at delaware and won it first asking back in september of last year as a two -year -old took quite a bit of time off resurfaced may 5th and oklahoma park ran a very professional race that day was three wide in a stalking position in hand moved to the lead while still in hand but wound up losing a narrow decision that day to the three to two favorite unifying galloped out nicely with the winner and kind of ran like a horse that would benefit from having that race under her belt she's a half to sila a grade two winning louisiana bred that i'm very familiar with also very familiar with the trainer brett brinkman who probably isn't overly familiar to a lot of the people that follow church roll downs on a day -to -day basis four to one of the morning line alva star for me and i like her yeah you might even get a touch higher than four to one who knows but certainly four to one would be fair value on alva star in race number nine that is number two alva star and one more race that is race number ten again if you go to twinspires .com to bet these races which is what you should be doing when you hear this twinspires triple play you're not going to see a triple play specific wager there but you can play all three of the races joe is talking about any way you like if you want to use them in some horizontal wagers you want to play some exactus some trifectas you want to bet these horses straight you can do it any way you like but just do it at twinspires .com joe race 10 is the featured race of the afternoon it is the one hundred or two hundred twenty five thousand dollar kirtana stakes mile and a half on the grass and a big field i love this 12 horses mile and a half this is going to be a cool race who wins it one of my favorite horses in training i hope number five miss yearwood for ian wilkes who has run on dirt and she's run on turf and most recently he's tried her at a mile and a half at gulfstream she just didn't like the turf down in florida which can you know be a really horses favorite that are forward i came in last out they went slow early 50 and three to the opening half and i know it's a mile and a half race but that's still slow with the rail 24 feet out and this horse closed in that mile and a half race with a turn of foot of a miler if you get a chance go back and watch the replay it was really impressive to see and you know now she steps up the stakes company she's got a little bit of you know black type on the resume she's dabbled in stakes company before she's a four -year -old filly who i still think has some upside and chris landeros he seems to have a knack riding these mile and a half turf races we've seen him win several stakes over such distances and in the past during the course of his career particularly for his father -in -law ian wilkes really love what i saw visually from her and see no reason why she can't step up in class and run an equally good race can have to run maybe a little bit better maybe a little bit faster but at six to one in the morning line i'm all in on miss yearwood in the kurtana stakes on saturday yeah certainly seems like she'll be running at the end and we'll see if she can get the victory again great value there at six to one so just to recap joe's triple play this week we'll go to race number four at churchill to kick it off he'll take number two on a spree who is seven to two on the morning line race number nine he'll go with number two alva star at four to one and race number ten the kurtana stakes he'll go with number
