Napa, Napa River, Dan Brekke discussed on All Things Considered

River is supposed to cross flood stage formerly at about six PM. And you know, even though that's sort of the technical flood stage. We're seeing. Roads in the area that have been inundated all afternoon already. Now. The Napa river at the city of Napa and at Saint Helena is also expected to rise. Above flood stage, though, recent fun park has helped that county deal with these types of drenching storms. That's right. There is a major flood control project to protect a specially central Napa from severe flooding events that Dave experienced in the past. And so the main part of the city of Napa is supposed to go through this without too much of a problem. There are areas north and south of the central part of Napa that will see some inundation the although the flooding forecast is described as for minor to moderate flooding that being said they're going to be lots of road closures in the Napa Valley. We've already seen some of those for instance, Oakville crossroad between highway twenty nine and Silverado trail that's been closed all day and more rain is expected. How much more rain, Dan? Well, we're in. In for another round of very intense rain throughout the evening. It looks like it could peak around ten or eleven o'clock tonight. According to the latest weather models, and unfortunately, it looks like the major punch for that is going to land in the north bay again. Although the rest of the area can expect to see some periods of heavy rain. And when I say the rest of the area, I'm talking about all the way down to the south bay, which has been mostly dry throughout the storm before I let you go, Dan any other notable effects of this storm that we haven't covered yet. Well, I think if you look outside the bay area, there's a major snowstorm raging in the Sierra Nevada. And then if you look at our reservoirs, especially lake were avail and Shasta lake those are filling up, and so those are going to be in the news in the coming weeks. Lots to monitor cake editor, Dan Brekke. Thanks so much. You're welcome. I'm Mina Kim. Kiwi. Dino's now, we do have an update from the national weather service at this hour. They say the atmosphere. Feerick. River is expected to continue to bring moderate to heavy rainfall to the north bay through late tonight. Moderate to heavy rain to finally spread south across the remainder of the bay area during the overnight hours widespread flooding continue across the north bay tonight. Some of the larger north bay rivers will continue to flood through at least Wednesday night. Also with the system strong. Gusty winds are expected through late tonight. The potential for down trees and power outages. Lingering showers are then expected on Wednesday and Wednesday night. And now a flood warnings are still in effect flood warning continuing for the following rivers, including the Napa river near Saint Alina, the Napper every near Napa and the Russian river new Healdsburg and also at Johnson's beach near Guerneville again, flood warnings for those rivers also flood warnings up for small streams in sonoma's county urban and small streams in Marin county and flood warnings for urban and small streams in Napa county. Stay.
