La La Films might already be on the Patriot archive la fills. We did eleven eleven. I know a Veterans Day of two thousand eight to longtime ago. That's that's prepaid white. Sometimes back on the radio still exists so we were doing this This was a accessible by only are people who tuned into the free to HD. You know what's worse is somewhere out there. I I was a guest on someone's podcast. I can't remember her name I think she works for funny or die or something. She was a female comedian. She asked me to come on her program and Talk L. A. Movies. I'm like oh I'll do that for you. Yeah there's right around the time this is all kicked off because L. A. Times Calendar Section had a top twenty five la movies that's right and we We disagree quiet. We disagreed with many of their picks. As you'd imagine there's a lot of time he picks a lot of stuff because Old Time you a you know a newspaper folk so I went on this poor woman's podcast. Brian and I remember her eyes glazing over like fifteen minutes in and I did a full twenty and five twenty five just I whack saying so excited to talk about movies. There are some great movies that take lays an and if somebody who was born and raised her. I'm I'm the only one in this room. It can say that. I chose movies that I think capture at least parts of Los Angeles if not all of Los Angeles my number one captures all of Los Angeles. Pretty pretty well. There are some huge movies that I absolutely love that take place in and around Los Angeles but I didn't include them because I don't think La when I think about the characters are bigger than L.. A. I'm looking for movies. Where L. He's like a character like that all had similar criteria? My criteria was This if you change the setting if you change to another city would it fundamentally changed the film like like for example. One of my favorite movies is heat. Great La Movie. It was called L.. A. takedown initially when they did the apparently a previous version of Michelman did a previous version of it and then made heat which I love but it kit could hood take place in Chicago. He could take place in Miami with a bank. Yeah really works. It works with L. A.. Because La is the capital of bank robbers. The world capitals. That's Robert I learned that in dente thieves. Oh interesting so and as much as like I don't WanNa step on your list but like Chinatown chinatowns runs out. Well that's a bad example. We'll go over some some also rans. That are great movies but they can take place in other cities. That's a good criteria tap. Also I should say three of my five were shot in Toronto but they are now the fuck out of here that is that is one of you know what there's got to be an example but it might might be one of the only cities you don't ever double for another city. You know what I mean Rana no la La movie shoot it here in La. But Bill I think. La's Dan well all the papers stands in for New York all the time in for also Toronto stands in Vancouver stands in. I love breath any other cities ever stood in for la saying yeah. That's interesting yeah. You're probably right but maybe back because for a while there wasn't like Santa Barbara the taxes says we just a brutal here shooting anything in La. I remember those few just just recently a three or four years ago. There's only one or two major productions shot in Los Angeles. It's the entire tire year. And my buddy who is special effects movies. Yeah they're all going up and down in Georgia. My Buddy who works okay. Though my my DP Mickey who actually I had forgotten this because they shot marriage source Longo but he worked on marriage story. WHO's there for all the? La Stuff was in la or at least a lot of shot a lot. Yeah but he was never in town. He didn't see his daughter Grell up because he had to take jobs out of town all the time. Now he's intelligent. Remember that scene in Marriage story where he shows up to like take Take the boy to trick or treat and she's like well. Yeah we're doing it separately now. And he takes it to the rich house. And then he takes an to like Koreatown Arizmendi stain and And she's just like deal with it. My Buddy I was talking to Michael Days ago he he was sitting right inside the door so when she closed the door The the the the shot was set up outside of the cameras outside with driver and he was inside. You know. I think he's probably doing the sticks the clapper and she was still kind of in character character looking at him and he and she. She broke character inch whispering. Because you all right my buddy. Y and Mickey was startled when he when he heard the the scene take place because Mickey is a divorced parent. He's like Affected Robbie said I've had. I've had that exact same conversation. Now that's happened at all real real and when I was talking to him about that I'm like that's probably a lot as to why. This movie is getting sucked up all over. The land is because so many people have lived this very true to life. Everything feels like a slice of life. Yeah but I mean I think if if you and I were divorced maybe and we've gone through similar things that we have responded to it. Ah perhaps I could see traumatic experience of course for the kid but if the parents Oughta mine I think are shot entirely in Los Angeles and and a lot of them over a lot of research on the locations shot in places they could have very easily doubled as a studio or somewhere else somewhere cheaper. They shot everything in Los Angeles. We'll get their number five for you right. I want to go last all right. I feel very strongly about my number one but I mean it's target is not gonNa Shock. Anyone know be shocked everyone by not shocking. We either but it's a personal choice personal personal reaction. I don't Mike that number five for me is a fairly recent film. Came out twenty four team. It is a disturbing movie. La La Land Eight is it makes you a little queasy while watching it because the despicable characters night crawler this is maps to the stars maps to the stars David Cronenberg Film Elma written by Bruce Wagner. This is these seedy underbelly added Bruce Wagner if I recall from live head a initially uncovering the talking about this movie Yes Bruce Wagner is a a he's a A scorned writer. I guess you call gay. He's the anger and I kind of his. His last hit was a movie that he wrote called a nightmare on ELM street. Three the wild like it was Number now maybe just the original and it was. He's he's a writer from an nightmare. Almost threes This the last big hit he had and I I think he took a lot of rejection rejection. I think he got hurt. A lot by Hollywood would end. He kind of just zeroed in focused on all the ugly disgusting gross parts of Tinseltown. And I'm not just talking about like the kids that they come out here and they're gonNa make it and then they get an a porn or heroin or both instead I there's that side of it for sure and that's been covered but he he actually went to the top and he was looking at filthy starlets. And the people that have made at Julianne. Moore's character actor is one of the most disgusting deplorable characters individuals. I've ever seen in any movie. She is she. She should've won awards for this movie. I'm sure she did. She's fantastic as a slightly aging actress. WHO's starting to age out of the business? And she's desperate to stay claw her way into it and the way that she treats her. A assistant is disgust. She's the character that I remember. Most from this movie I mea was a CALICO is fantastic in it as well sir Assistant and There is a rubber Patten's and there there is a supernatural kids. The best kids fucking great. There's a supernatural element that I didn't respond too much and didn't really care for much In this movie which kind of held it off being one of my favorites ever probably but I love this movie and it's hard to watch and ugly and it's gross. It's not pleasant watch but it's it's It's a well. There well drawn characters for shirt and they follow a bunch of different characters living in and around Los Angeles who are trying to make it in different stages of their careers and Brian alluded to the the child actors disgusted. An awesome and great on one. Wouldn't you like to know from the writer who he drew these character traits run like. Oh yeah that's worked with meeting with her. I now from whatever of course of course yes chromebook. Canadian filmmaker too came down here to make it fell. He came here. Yes so that's my number. Five is maps to the stars which you can see on Netflix number. Five for me is film. Doesn't come up on the show very often. How brought up a few times way in the past? But I haven't brought up in a long time. Hasn't fit into very many lists but shot entirely on location Los Angeles essentials in Inglewood Boys and hood boys in Nineteen ninety-one boys in the breakout film for writer. Director John Singleton passed away. All righty all right. Happy Jones Singleton Marine biologist and then he turned filmmaker. That's right you remember you telling me about that This like I said was shot entirely in. La Inglewood including scenes. That like I said before could have have been filled anywhere. Like remember Laurence Fishburne. Furious style as office was shot at his office. Scenes were Oliver's Kofu cough cough. You're you're on Jefferson. The elementary school scenes were shot at Woolworth. Elementary Englewood even. The House is Anderson that we're supposed to be on the same block. Were on the same block. If they're on the fifty nine hundred block of Cimarron street like in south central. They shot neighboring houses. Of course the exterior makes sense. There's all the interior at at these houses. Did you know the main home in the film though the fierce is and trae their their home about last sold for one hundred seventeen thousand dollars in one thousand nine hundred ninety five Earth Days September thirteenth.."
