Listen: Terry Sabin, Nick Stevens, Scott Cochran discussed on Origins with James Andrew Miller
"That he will be regarded as the greatest college football coach ever. Welcome to argest chapter three, Argentina champion, Nick Sabin, and Alabama's crimson tide a journey inside the house to save it. And they look at how savings preparing for his tenth year as Alabama's head coach, we will talk with Sabin himself wife, Terry fabled strength, coach, Scotty, Cochran, former Yankees manager and and friend, Joe Girardi former players and others all in an attempt to discover why Nick savings, Alabama college football teams are so freaking successful. This exploration started in Tuscaloosa Alabama, where I sat down one morning to get the story from Sabin himself in his private office. It's just as you might imagine, well, organized Uber, masculine and pack Florida ceiling with saving memorabilia enough for five or six commonplace living legends, you know, my dad started pop Warner football in our area in West Virginia. I think when I was about ten years old, because if you can get a picture, there were like seven coal mining towns, and a lot of the kids weren't able to participate because. All these coal mining towns were up in hollows, you know? So we didn't have any transportation the only way we'd get home, it's hitchhike, you know, after practice or whatever. So a lot of guys participate. So my dad bought a bus went and picked the kids up, took them home after practice, but the field that we had item eight ball Dom and in the one end zone there was a mountain of hill that was like layered in straight up, and our conditioning would always be to run this hill and you had to most of the time we practiced 'til dark, so you had to bring verification. It's got to the top. You had to grab a leave off free at the top of the hill, and it was a difficult conditioning process, very difficult in one than anybody that ever played for them always remembers. But you know, it's those kind of things that are difficult and hard that I think you you always remember. Terry Sabin is Nick Stevens. Wife avoid in forty five years and his well known. As a major influence in the coaches life as major really as an influence can get. In West Virginia. We have all these little communities that are separated by mountains. And during that time in our life, you didn't have cell phones. You have any of the social media. So a mountain away in West Virginia was like a world away anywhere else. It was like continent away, but even then back in my little community, mixed father's reputation was one of successful businessman because he owned gas station and the Dairy Queen. But he was a man to be reckoned with a coal mining community that he was a leader because he was a pop Warner coach and owner of the gas station where everyone stop and gathered every evening, disgust everyone's problems. And if I got to know Nick better and we started dating and I was able to. To be around big Nick and see him firsthand and watches relationship with his son. You know, there was a lot of respect, but there was also some fear. He didn't talk a lot. He certainly didn't smile lasts a lot. He was very focused, but he said a great example, you always move. You were loved as a young boy, it went everywhere with his father, whether it was the trash down or to line the baseball field at all of his game. The only do where you stood with bid neck. Yes, he was a disciplinarian. Yes, he was tough, but he also had a big heart and I'd like to think that Nick inherited those traits from his dad. Scott Cochran was born on March twenty first nineteen Seventy-nine in New Orleans and has a bachelor's in kinesiology and a masters in sports management. Both from LSU. He joined Nick Sabin at his alma mater in two thousand three when Sabin won his first national championship in two thousand and four Cochran became an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the New Orleans Hornets and remained in that position until two thousand six. The next year he reunited with saving and the crimson tide. He spends a bunch of his time at the schools,."
