Listen: Kobe, League, Kobe Bryant discussed on Big Time Basketball
"Enter scall- midway through the week here and what has been a tough week. We're GONNA continue to remember Kobe Bryant And I I imagine. We will for a long time but today I actually want to look at something. I don't know if you saw it last night but the TNT pre-game which was unbelievable? I mean it. It was one of the best hours of television I've ever watched in my entire life. Incredibly Emotional You know we. We've done a lot of the emotional stuff in the last couple of days going back to Sunday when the obviously the tragic accident can happen but I do there was one thing last night. That was really interesting to me and it was what Jerry West said about when Kobe the part time Kobe's career when he almost wanted out of la out of La. Okay but out of the out of the Lakers organization and almost showing the clippers. There was a rumored trade to the Pistons or was also talk about the Chicago Bulls. I find that sort of period in Kobe. Grew really really interesting. And I WANNA get in in that a little bit because there are so many great. What ifs in Kobe career? What if you know Shaq talked about it last like could they won ten titles together if they stayed together if they obviously didn't have their beefs together in one of those is what if Kobe had left? La Koby left. The Lakers enjoyed another teams. We'll play some some jerry westbound just a little bit You know every time you see him. It's incredibly emotional. So we'll do that in a little bit Chris. Middle WanNA the Games. 'cause there was some great on the court action last night. Chris Middleton jobs fifty and a win for the box with no Jaanus. And I think that's going to lead us into my weekly list. I hear Scott which I think I'll do in the last half an hour of the show of the five my five most underrated players in the NBA. Right now and this. I've been I've been kicking this list throughout all morning. It's really difficult to put together. I have a solid four guys I feel like I I should put on this list. I guarantee you're going to disagree with me but this is kind of my preference. The Way I'm looking at. It is based on what their public perception is guys around the league media members versus. How good I think they really are? So there's some stars in there there are some not stars in there. You'RE GONNA disagree with me so make sure you check that out. We'll do that in the last half an hour of the show and Celtics getting a huge win last night and there's some really interesting stats that I want to throw at you to scale about. How good the Celtics have bad about some against some some of the best teams in the League but first and foremost what's up how we doing? And how was your night last night. Good man bike once again. Yeah I watched the TNT got me down and once again. But I'm back Cerruti combat band like this is no more I do understand. I do feel bad Kobe in the family and all the things right but like I'm taking that and I'm like switching everything around for my life like being a better person I'm back to get Out there and having attention to detail and everything that I do like I without stacking wood today I had the music blasting it was freezing outside but I was loving doing doing things again. And I'm I'm I feel like I feel like everything tragic or for for me a lot of time like say I'm doing my own adversity versity. I gotta go down before I come up and the Kobe thing last night was the lowest I think I was trending that way. Just getting sad and then oh you know like they did a good job. TNT broadcast of showing the the all the people that you see mother data and the daughter you see the you see the data daughter you see the pilot. The coach right so I was i. That really drove it home. I woke up today and I've been on a mission an and the best version of myself and that's what I think that's what I'm GonNa try to take from this. Yeah I totally agree. I think it's cool. You're seeing the players now. Continue to pay their respects including a lot of players around the league who are now changing their numbers because they were either number eight or number twenty four Spencer Dinwiddie and terrence Ross. Both wore number eight have changed their numbers. And that's something that the League actually had you know you're able to really do that until the off season. The League is basically allowing players to do that now which is really cool and I thought this was cool from Spencer Dinwiddie. He went from number eight to number twenty six. We played sound of him on Monday. Scale I don't know if you saw this. But his one of his reactions to to always passing in the entire situation was one of the best pieces as the sound that we played because he talked about how Koby just reaching out to him telling him in his book he was an all star and it didn't matter if he got voted in the All Star game because its popularity contests and the emotion on Spencer. Dinwiddie space was just really awesome thing to see how much it meant for. Just Kobe to tell him. You're an all star in my book. I mean you can really tell how much guys were affected by this especially changes number number twenty six and this is from twitter's of the reason he chose twenty-six is really cool basically because obviously the the tragedy happened on January twenty six twenty four and two are John and Kobe's numbers add those together adds up to twenty six to plus six is eight. He's twenty six years old. He was born in April he was born on the twentieth of son was born on the six. There are just so many different reasons that twenty six is a big deal in his life and so it's cool to see that happen a lot of guys. I mean we saw who is is it dumb dot. Org Bear decide. He didn't he didn't want anyone to call them. The maple mom anymore respect for Kobe. So all of these guys around the League have really Have really kind of continue to pay their respects and I I'm interested to see what the what we haven't heard a lot from the NBA about what they'll do. We got an all star game coming up. I'm sure there's a lot of things that are going to go on there. Obviously you know the Lakers are going to be an action on Friday. They haven't really made anything but one statement. I'm sure they're preparing what they're going to do to honor Kobe. But it just has been really cool to continue to see the the way that the League is embracing this and Honoring Kobi's memory. You know just a couple of days after the tragic accident I I got one question like so on the. I don't know when this is going to happen or the funeral or anything like that. There's obviously so many current NBA players. That are Kinda. WanNa go to the service so is Ziemba going to have to suspend games on that day or you're just gonNA play. NBA Games with two or three guy. I mean I don't know I would assume it would be the. I'm assuming Jason Tatum will go like I'm assuming he had a relationship with him right so I I wonder if the NBA is going to do something like about that that as well so you know listen man is a lot like like what ifs going on moving forward and and that was where like I get it. They didn't. They didn't cancel the Games. And and I'm sure that there's a lot of NBA player that want to show their respects and pay their respects to to Kobe. It'll very very interesting. What's going to happen whenever the services are in and when it had that dance around scheduling and all that stuff and what does the League do about it? Maybe maybe it's just you know business as usual and for any player that wants to go they have the right to go in the basically the player personal day but it will that will be a weird days in the NBA as well speaking of what ifs in the TNT broadcast. From last night they had Jerry West Don who was opposite guy that brought Koby to the Lakers made the trade and was basically took a father figure to Kobe for a long time. Everytime see Jerry West. It's incredibly heartbreaking. But he did say something last night that I found really interesting and something that we haven't talked about which is the timing Kobe's career with the Lakers when he almost let the Lakers and he was frustrated with the organization and Jerry West really opened up about what he said to cope during that time when he was looking to potentially be traded to teams like the clippers the Pistons the the the bowl. So let's hear that sound and rack this because it's an incredibly interesting time Kobe's career that I want to kind of dive into so let's hear from Jerry West. Last ninety I."
