Listen: Tom Brady, Jared Goff, Michelle discussed on KNBR Tonight with Drew Hoffar & Kevin Frandsen
"From Atlanta on Westwood One. It was the only Super Bowl without a touchdown through three quarters. That's never happened before. But we finally had a team on the goal line in the fourth quarter with that incredible rob gronkowski catch. There were a lot of former players who were breaking that formation down. In fact, that entire series down and the creativity. And how many different ways Tom Brady use that formation on the touchdown drive? Gronkowski had to veer away from a couple of defenders and the ball was waiting for him as he dove to the turf. And so he comes up with that catch with seven and a half minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, and then Sony Michelle the rookie punches it in on the very next snap for the first. And as it turns out only touchdown of Super Bowl fifty three. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio. If you disliked the Super Bowl, maybe you thought it was boring. I'd like to hear from you. Tell me why. Yes, it was low scoring. I'll give you that. But it was a tie game midway through the fourth quarter and still a one possession game until the final minutes. So have you hated the Super Bowl? I'd like to know why? You can find me on Twitter AOL radio and then on our Facebook page after hours with Amy Lawrence. Producer Chris came up with a montage of some of the moments that he'll remember from the commercials. We'll get to the commercials. What are your Super Bowl standouts? Whether it's a commercial, whether it's an element that you saw the broadcast. Whether it's the halftime show. Whether it's a particular play in the game. What will you remember from Super Bowl fifty three all that? Touchdown drive. Tom Brady was four for four with sixty seven yards passing. He did not play. Well, either neither quarterback played. Well, now Brady played a little better then Jared Goff and his offensive line was better in front of him. But he didn't have a great game. Either. His daughter was really cute on the post game podium, though, his daughter, Vivian. Los angeles. Did look like it was going to respond with a touchdown drive of its own completing a few passes to flip the field on that next drive immediately after getting behind tend to three but then Brandin cooks drop the touchdown catch in the end zone. And the very next play this week. Short almost back footed throw by Jared Goff. That gets picked by Stefan. Gilmore. And it wasn't over. Then. His New England got the ball back with four fourteen left at that point. I had zero confidence remaining in the Rams offense, and you had Sony Michelle and Rex Burkhead both scampered twenty six yards on on different snaps. The patriots did get stuffed on third down. But Stephen Gostkowski was able to attack on a forty one yard field goal. And your final is thirteen to three. And yes, Julian Eshelman. Was the MVP. You know, me I don't do predictions. But early in the first half. I tweeted that if the patriots could just score at all Ben should be their MVP. In fact, he was he finished up with a game high ten catches for one hundred forty one yards. He was targeted twelve times. So it seems like every time almost every time. The ball was going to him. He would make a play literally. He was the highlight reel other than Johnny Hecker. And Ryan Allen, those two guys the punters were also really good. But yeah, there was no answer for Julian Edelman. And he who know is supposed to be like, Tom Brady's little brother. This is the guy who went from a tornado the last season to being suspended the first four games of this year to now Super Bowl MVP. I'm going to live out a dream. So it's pretty it's pretty surreal right now. And I think everything happens for a reason I was always taught as a young boy was just kinda work hard work as hard as you can put in extra time and worry about what you got on your plate at that time. And that's what I've tried to do. I mean, he played the best game. He has all year. And so proud of him what he's accomplished come back from his ACL, and he just fought it out grinded out like everyone else. So Tom Brady Julian Edelman, they have that kind of playoff connection that kind of Super Bowl connection. That you only get with the reps and the comfort ability on the game's biggest stage. Brady finished up twenty one of thirty five for two hundred sixty two yard. He did have that pick on the opening possession. And then had the first sack that he is absorbed all postseason long. How about this other than the sack only four other quarterback heads? So the offensive line Dante, scar Nekia the New England Patriots. That group of guys who cleared the way for the four both Sony. Michelle. The whatever running playbay they tried their. They got stuffed early on to be sure. But later in the game, Michelle and birkhead able to to break out and get some big first downs. And also to hold off the Rams pass rush for the most part Michelle finished up with ninety four yard touchdown. What a rookie campaign he had. And then if you're going to get a defensive player for MVP there were a couple of different candidates. How about Kyle van noy with four tackles a sack and three quarterback hits on Jared Goff. Who was terrible. And obviously he knows that he was nineteen of thirty eight for two hundred twenty nine yards. He had the interception by Stefan Gilmore in a terrible throw late and also took four sacks. I wish I played better. I wish would have played better offense offense.."
