Listen: Robbie Robertson, Skinner, Martin Scorsese discussed on The Loudini Rock and Roll Circus
"From the Bo. Deans and bands like that. The last wall was a Martin. Scorsese wanted to capture a band at their end. This is it. This is our big finale. We're going out. We're done the sort of embarrassing thing about it. Was the band got back together and did all bunch albums and toward but without Robbie Robertson and this AH testimony the reason I'm bringing this up because the money what a great musician Robbie Robertson was the band never did anything of any importance importance once Robbie Robertson left the band because he was the guy he was. We really is much as Leon. Helm is an amazing drummer and amazing raising singer and rick. Danko is a great singer as well. Those guys just could not their time was over and you also so can't do a film and have Martin Scorsese directed and say concerts didn't work and then go back out like people are like really you know just like you know and those guys are all gone now. Lebron passed away. Everybody's going Robbie Robertson is still alive but just absolutely one of the one of the most important musicians in rock of all time. The band often was referred to Oh as America's Beatles so the Beatles loved the band they were just critic starling had massive hits had songs that are insanely timeless and were For Band of people mostly Canadian they were really understood. The American south and we're able to sort of communicate these ideas in a way way. That might be today would not work as well with the political socio political environment that we have in this country but they were able to bring a sort of sophistication listen to the emotions of people from that era and from that part of the country very beautiful and if you've not seen alas wall so highly highly recommend again once you finish watching link wray's video to rumble and you watch the movie. Let the native Americans rumble now then and you watch this watch the last wall. It's it's absolutely it's why I usually watch it at least once a year. Plus the guys tell some hilarious. How Larry Stories stories about their experiences and I think he everybody will really enjoy it so Robbie Robertson? I'm so not worthy. So what else. She got. Lily B. Six. What else do I got? I got Rickie medlock American musician best known as the Frontman Guitars for the southern rock band blackfoot and a member of Skinner D- During his first go rounder under skinner. In seventy one to seventy two. He played drums and sang lead on a few songs he returned to skinner back. In one thousand nine hundred sixty s guitarist and continues to tour and record today with them He taught himself how to play guitar at the age of five and drums. At the age of eight he played in his grandfather's band. Shorty medlock who was well-known Delta Blues Musician he is specifically Lakota Sioux and Cherokee descent and was inducted into the native American Music Hall of fame in two thousand eight. Yeah one of the things that people don't realize about blackfoot foot is yes. There are southern rock band but they could really rock. They were one of the southern rock bands at like remembered. The rock part really really well instead of what's happening with skinner. Skinner has just become a sort of like Like every southern rock. Everybody's everybody's been through that band. It's like Oak Arkansas blackfoot. The OWL laws. You know. They've all our molly hatchet. Gotcha different guys got members of bands of kind of cycled through skittered. I don't I've I have this from on good authority. That what happens is if you're in the band too long and you start asking for more money the fire you. I mean you go back to to molly hatchet or whatever are not how much you not making. You're talking and yeah so so they're like okay. You're done you're done in neighboring in some other southern rock person to to to to do the thing that that skinner my opinion is a complete embarrassment I mean they were great band for what they did but one yet when the crash happened opened I felt that they should have drafted at the age of dropped. I think Rawson collinses should've given that more of a try because that was a really good record and they should adjust. I just let that go because what happens is when you let something like that. Go all those bands like they became lead debut really became mm-hmm Ober respected. So that you think about led Zeppelin you think about the doors you think about the Jimi Hendrix experience. you think about all these bands where where somebody a key from the band passed away and they said Okay we're done. People are clamoring for more that stuff and I think that they probably if they would've played their cards right and not done anything for a really long time. And then maybe twenty years later guts remaining marriage and did a tour or something like that could have been something cool kind of like with the police did but no they just milk and milk and milk and milk that fricken thing and I think they've Kinda sullied the skinner D- ideal deal with their hold like association with the sort of Republican sort of. I'm not against that if that's your thing but I'm just saying a unlike that's a kind of like I think soured a lot of people's feelings about them when they could have just gone out with that blaze of glory and and been like we did these records. Their class frigate Free Bird. What else? anyways I digress a little bit not medlock. I hope you're kicking us. Hope you're making nice blocks in skittered. ENJOY WATT lasts. It could last forever good for him. They're running out of those guys and maybe they can't afford anything that'll pay him now. WE'RE GONNA start recycling we're going to start going after the kids now to we'll get them into bed next on. The next one is actually quite interesting. It's truck billy. American vocalist best known for Band Thrash Metal Band Testament demint. He joined legacy nineteen eighty. Six replacing vocalist Steve Sues. After they changed the name to testament he may. The band released their debut album legacy and nineteen eighty-seven which featured one song written by billy called Doer. Di He provided vocals for many bands and albums including crazy by SEGA's Dublin death. Hold John M.. Lost here Dublin. Death Patrol and sang silent night. And we wish you a metal Christmas and a head banging new year plus many more I. His father was native American and is of Pomo. Komo native Americans their indigenous people of Northern California. He's very proud of his native American heritage. The song trail of tears is a tribute to the heritage as well as allegiance agents and native blood. He was recognized at the Smithsonian National Museum. And this is where it gets cool of American Indian exhibit up where we belong native musicians in popular culture that it was on display in January twenty eleven. I thought that was pretty cool that he in a thrash metal band was part of the Smithsonian exhibit. I thought that was pretty cool. Well Testament mend has stood the test of time there. If they're a classic metal bands you know they're they're up there with slayer and all the anthrax. I mean no weren't quite as influential. Famous is quite but you know. They're they're considered like one one of the staple bands of that genre. It's just nice to see that sort that music is recognized at the Smithsonian off because sometimes I feel like they sort of pushed that aside especially when it comes to meddle Medal is meadows like has become the sort of hate to say in many ways metals kind of become sort of jazz fusion of rock. Yeah and a lot of ways because this is where the guy who can really play their asses off. This is kind of where they're going and I'm not talking about. Yes I know I know. I know all the alternative guys in blues guys. I know they play with a lot of feeling. I'm not talking about that and they're great players. I'm GonNA talk about it. I'm just talking about the guys that had like that. Insane Skill Victims John Rav Medal called math metal. was guys switches enough. Yeah it was all kind of like insane time signatures and things like that. So it's serious. It's becomes very serious as music. which is which is a good thing? I'm glad to see that metal has has achieved that level of respect so good for metal. So what are you gonNA next next on my list is blackie lawless. American songwriter musician. Best known as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist formerly bassist for the heavy metal band. Wasp his Irish French and native American ancestry his mother there."
