President Trump, Senate, News Nation discussed on Chicago's Afternoon News
W G. N I'm Steve Berg friend. My constituents telling the story about the violent attack on our country on our Capitol building. Which is really like the temple of our democracy. I have now taken the oath of office. The same oath of office of the president of the United States has taken that all of us here have taken And he has been the orchestrator of this attack. It is time to hold this president accountable. It is time and history demands. That we have the Gentlewoman's time. Chicago Congressman Jan Schakowsky talking on the floor of the Senate as the House debated impeachment today of President Trump, and in the end, they did vote to impeach the president for a second time. The only time a sitting president or any president Has been impeached twice. In the end, there were 12 Republicans who voted for the impeachment. It now goes to the Senate. Where looks like Mitch McConnell is going to punt it until after the Democrats take control of the Senate. Yeah, we do have some breaking news. It looks like President Trump has released his video that he said he was going to release after, um Today's impeachment vote. I haven't listened to it in entirety in its entirety, but I can tell you I do have a couple quotes where, he said. I unequivocally condemned the violence that we saw last week. Violence and vandalism has absolutely no place in our country and our movement. After you know, he originally you have the audio. We're getting it So we'll have it soon. All right. We'll stay on that. Will keep updated on that and play the audio A soon as we can find it, Kim, you also we saw the speaker take further action just a few minutes ago. We did. She's officially signed the articles of impeachment and that will now be sent over to the Senate. Time to say hello to actually catch the national news correspondent for News Nation. Ashley is your head spinning. There's a lot going on here. Historic day. Another history another historic day, the Bangles saying about manic Mondays, But we need a song about Wednesdays. I think Wednesday's have turned into the new Monday around here like Florida's the New California or something like that. Exactly. So, what are you watching today? You know, I'm sitting here watching the president who just released that video. We're covering all of it. Of course on news nation tonight. We're also talking about covert 19. And we've heard of a lot of people out there who aren't going to be getting the vaccine specifically employees. Certain corporations. Well, one corporation is now stepping up and saying, Hey, we're gonna pay you once You complete your vaccine for the time that you lost much step away Four hours pay these air. We're talking about hourly employees and sour salaried employees as well. A dollar general stores again these air frontline workers, So this is the first Really large employer that we've seen come forward and say Take the time to go get the vaccine. And yes. Oh, well, we'll see how many actually do with those. Actually, we're going to run. We just got the audio of the president and his well, okay. All right. Thanks very much. Actually catch. We're gonna play this audio and I will say it listening to it as you do. Listen to it carefully because it was audio from the president to release like this. That was actually pulled from Twitter and Facebook and was the beginning of the suspension because not all of what the president said was true, But here he is the first reaction we have of him reacting to today's impeachment vote. My fellow Americans. I want to speak to you tonight about the troubling events of the past week. As I have said the incursion of the U. S Capitol struck at the very heart of our republic. It angered and appalled millions of Americans across the political spectrum. I want to be very clear. Unequivocally condemned the violence that we saw last week. Violence and vandalism have absolutely no place in our country and no place in our movement. Making America great again has always been about defending the rule of law. Supporting the men and women of law enforcement and upholding our nation's most sacred traditions and values. Mob violence goes against everything I believe in and everything our movement stands for no true supporter of mine could ever endorse political violence. No true supporter of mine could ever disrespect law enforcement. Or our great American flag. No true supporter of mine could ever threaten or harass their fellow Americans. If you do any of these things, you are not supporting our movement. You're attacking it and you are attacking our country. We cannot tolerate it. Tragically over the course of the past year made so difficult because of covert 19. We have seen political violence spiral out of control. We have seen too many riots, too many mobs, too many acts of intimidation and destruction. It must stop whether you are on the right. We're on the left. A Democrat. Or Republican. There is never a justification for violence. No excuses. No exceptions. America is a nation of laws. Those who engaged in the attacks last week. Will be brought to justice. Now I am asking everyone who has ever believed in our agenda..
