Listen: Sacramento Kings, Knicks, Sacramento discussed on The Popcast With Knox and Jamie
"I will do wanna go on record that I thought the Sacramento Kings were a fake team even. Until how old was on realize. They were real oh today. Like, however old. I am today. You were two years old when you realize eight years old, and then I read that the Sacramento Kings started in nineteen Twenty-three. They're like one of the oldest franchises in the NBA. I also maybe didn't think to San was real. So to be fair, a we'll get into Stanford. Yeah. Jayme. I wanna go record that like, I consider myself, a professional smart, pop culture consumer. But I also thought oh this that's the second. Mccain's is a fun made up name. I like that. Well, if you know anything about the Middle East is the Sacramento the Middle East. I don't know if you saw that in the way that I saw okay? Here's the problem that the Sacramento the the Knicks. It's interesting in no world with these two teams have made the finals. And I think it's exhilarated by leading up to this movie. The Lakers, I think it made the finals three or four years in a row, and who they played most recently, not the Knicks not the bulls. Like a cool team the of close New York was the New Jersey Nets. So it's really like tough for the next to see that. And like if you're playing Kerr Thomasson Alan Houston a lot you're just not making the finals guys. So it was a really fun. It was really fun Kingston utilize them a lot. And you saw some of the some of the players I like the real footage. It felt good. I think this movie and train wreck. And I'm sure missing a couple but most time when movies com handle sports, it's real bad. But this was actually pretty well done. I know, and I like the way they liked how I think that's why I like her character so much is because she likes basketball. But then she has to be like, I don't like basketball need diet coke. I have to lake pretend. I don't really love sports. But I love sports enough for you to fall for me. But not enough that I'm going to this is really, okay. Like, I I liked that. That was something still haven't totally reconciled. How Phil about it? There's something interesting. They were doing with the cool girl archetype who eats burgers watches bass. All right. That's always the that's where you can tell movies done by a white guy is the aspirational coup girl who reads comic books. Eat burgers, watch sports and just wants to have sex with guys they they subverted that in a clever way. And I don't know if they just landed on something interesting, or if it was intentionally interesting to do that. Now, I think it's it was cliche like analysts. This is the guy who the guy who directed this directed pizza, which believe it or not I love that movie. But it has so many cliches, but we do get like a tiny little Matt Dame, very happy. But we he also did miss Congeniality probably one of my favorite Ron calms of all time. And I. He does lean into like will this is cliche like an wets the thing. Because even now I thought about a lot about the things in this movie that she does to turn off the guy. And I think God this does not hold up because so many guys would would sit. I mean, you're literally recapping romantic comedy. And she's like if you don't think sleep sleepless in Seattle is a fantastic, I won't even be in a relationship with you. That's not a not a hardship to watch that movie. You know? And so I like how so many of these things are in real women. Don't even do like women don't do these cliches. There's one woman there's the Katherine Hong character that does them but nine times the other nine women in the thing would never, you know, like do a photo shopped scrapbook of our of our life like that's not a real thing. So I like that it leaned so heavily. But you could tell the director had he had like a hand like an issue with women. Yeah. And I feel like it was probably on the poker. Scene where it fell a little tired.."
