Listen: Carson Wentz, Eagles And Dallas discussed on Joe Giglio
"We've got for you on the biggest football Friday of the season. We've got gas. We've got topics we've got things to get into. We also have a process pre-game Sixers and the pistons later on this evening, a hot stove checking we'll talk to Kevin Franson who is now one of two voices one a two one. Kevin Larry, but Kevin France and got the promotion with the Phillies. Broadcasting is going to happen at eight o'clock, Madison Bumgarner Phillies stops happy to talk to cabinet eight speed with all the lines and the games and the picks coming up in the nine o'clock hour, but all night long around all that it is eagles Cowboys. And here's what it is. But let's let's not sugarcoat. With Sundays Sunday is the season for the Philadelphia Eagles. You could tell me, and you could try to give me all sorts of different ways. The eagles can. Can still make the playoffs. If they lose the Cowboys, and I don't buy it. The eagles season easy. They're alive and running off into the into a place where we're all gonna feel good about it Sunday around eight o'clock or the eagles season is over. That's with Sunday represents the eagles should go down there as a desperate football team because their season and they're real really their defense of their Super Bowl crown is on the line on Sunday at four twenty five. If the eagles win the game they will walkout technically in first place in the NFC east. If the eagles lose the game, they have no tiebreaker. They've been swept by the Cowboys are two full games back with three to play. They have the trip to the Rams next week for all intents and purposes the eagles season is over if they lose the game. And that's why Sunday isn't just a big game that why Sundays and just the biggest game this season Sunday is the biggest game of Carson Wentz his career. And we're gonna talk about all different aspects of this game. On Sundays this show goes along with touching on them all week long the lines playing better the play calling by Doug homefield down there in Dallas. How much really matters. But it all comes down to this. The eagles need their franchise quarterback. The eagles. Neither third year star quarterback. Who's coming off? What I believe was. His best game of the season. And really the game that made you feel the most confident him all year long, and he had some bad moments. He missed some guys had the interception the red zone. But the way he looked on Monday was the closest to what we saw last year when he was a legitimate MVP candidate the closest and he had that game on Monday. So you should have some confidence. Either Carson is turning a corner where what ironically is a year ago this week that he had the knee injury in Los Angeles. But this is the biggest game of Carson Wentz his career. And there's no other way to say it. This is the game. Carson Wentz is to go out there and playing a game. If he plays in a game with the way the eagles off. It's of line is played with the way Doug Peterson seemingly has a feel. Now these in a group calling plays with the way the eagles defensive line can match up against their offense. Went Carson Wentz. Play a game. The eagles will leave Dallas in first place on Sunday night. If Carson Wentz plays a game. If Carso has played a CD game. And I'm going to be going to say a d game. Because I you know, we really haven't seen any of that. I guess the. I guess the saints game was D or an F game. But I'm not expecting that on Sunday. I think he's shown us enough in his career. He doesn't play many D or F games. It's either A B or C for Carson Wentz. If he plays in a game on Sunday. The eagles will beat the Cowboys and the eagles need an a game to beat the Cowboys. I don't fear the styles team. I don't think Dallas is is as good as they've looked the last couple of weeks. It was a nice win over the saints. But I think there are very beatable team. They're good team, their defence is legitimate. But they're they're a great team. That's a good team. If Carson Wentz has an a game on Sunday, the eagles will walk out victorious, and as I sat through this morning, really diving into some of the numbers and the match ups and just thinking about the way this game could play out on Sunday afternoon. It all came back to Carson Wentz. It all comes back to your quarterback. And when the eagles drafted Carson Wentz with the number two overall pick a few years ago. They drafted him to go win this football game. They drafted him to win games. Like this. This is why you have a franchise quarterback this. This is why you have what you think is the advantage at quarterback on Sunday. It's why the eagles drafted Wentz to two. And it's why you feel good about Wentz. I prescott. So you feel good about Wentz? I most guys because this is the guy. This is the franchise quarterback. Here's the reality of Carson Wentz his career so far he's never played in a game this big and he's never won a game this big especially especially on the road. Carson Wentz is an under five hundred quarterback in the road on his career. He's wanting his rookie year is one at seven in the road. Only one team last year that ended up in the playoffs. Only one road game against the team that ended up in the playoffs last year that was the Carolina Panthers. And that was in October. There's never been a game with this kind of high stakes late in the season for this quarterback. Somebody's the reality of the rookie rookie year. They didn't have weapons he was a rookie last year. They were kind of front runners. They were so good. And the record was so good that he ever really had to play in a big game. You could tell me help people did today that Rams game. Last year was a big game at Carson was playing a well of a game before he got hurt. And that's true is a big game and home field advantage would have been compromised if they lost that game. But here's the truth about that. The eagles were going to the playoffs last year. Whether or not they beat that Ramstein. Did they were and they proved it by by finishing it out and taking care of business. The next two weeks without Carson Wentz. Nothing was really in jeopardy last year in terms of where the season was going. They were going to the playoffs. They were going to win the NFC east. It was a big game. Because we wanted to see how good they were. It was kind of a litmus test game. But it was it implicat-. Implications were nothing like this. If the. Eagles lose on Sunday. Their chances to make the playoffs. Just crater. It's over if they lose on Sunday if they win this game on Sunday, they become the favorites in the NFC. That's the dichotomy we're talking about it's either a or it's either B and when I look at Carson Wentz and how he's played this year. And you guys know I've been critical Carson, and I pointed out how he's not played close to the level that he did last year. As I think right now, and I'm trying to I'm trying to be fair to the guy. But I'm also trying to be fair to you and give you my opinion. I feel better about Carson Wentz awful last week than I have all year long. But deep down inside. I don't trust. He's gonna play a great game on Sunday. And they need a great game. If you ask me Jody think he's gonna play while on Sunday. I will say yes, I think he will play. Well, I think Douglas scheme it up Carson will do enough. I think he'll play well on Sunday. But I'm not talking about. Well, I'm talking about great. I'm talking about the game from Monday, but without any turnovers without any big plays left on the field and missed I don't I don't have it like deep down and liquid make this kind of a trustee night on the evening shower. You know, what's the truth here? What are you really feel about Carson Wentz heading into this game? But the biggest game in his career. What do you feel? I believe he'll play. Well, but I don't have one hundred percent trust. He's. Going to go down to the Dallas and play the best game. He needs to play play the a plus game. Eight eight seven to nine ninety four ninety four. Where are you right now? The Carson Wentz confidence meter this is the biggest game of his career. This is the game like it or not. And you might say we'll make too much of it. But it's the truth like it or not come Monday. We're going to have a different feeling of what Carson Wentz is. And we're gonna have a different feeling of or maybe a solidified feeling, but it's going to be a visceral feeling Monday about Carson Wentz one way or the other. If he goes down there and plays an a plus game. The best game of the season kinda like Monday moving out of the pocket. Make big throws. Make a big plays using his legs any limits the turnovers and they win any outplay stack. And they're the front runners in the NFC east. It's going to be like a whole day of Carson's back. The eagles are back. This is our guy the MVP from last year returned if he doesn't play. Well, we all know what the conversations going to be Monday. Especially if he doesn't play well in the fourth quarter. If it's a close game whatever we're gonna question Carson Wentz and fairly so because he's never played in a game this big. So we do this is we're learning, but we're still learning about this kid. He's we're still learning about how good this kid is. And how good he'll be. So there's a lot riding on this game for the season, which is everything. And for how we view Carson Wentz. And every week we chalk up another part of it to his resume and what he's done and what he will do and what is going. It's okay. To to still say we're still evaluating Carson Wentz. He hasn't played here for ten years. I believe he'll play. Well, I believe this offense of line the coach playcalling it's all trending in the right direction. I feel better about Carson Wentz right now than any time this season. But I don't have one hundred percent trust. He's gonna play an a or an a plus game on Sunday. I wish I did. I wish I had it. I wish I could. That's the only part of this game on Sunday. I wonder about because Dallas is good enough that the eagles can't win. Of course, it plays a b minus game that they just can't that team beat drew Brees the saints last week. They're five and one at home. They're a good team. And if Carson Wentz plays a b minus be game. I think they're going to lose a close game, and it won't necessarily be as fault.."
