What was the first one did did that you wrote. They kind of got a little play and you're like Oh. Maybe I can do this. You got a little bit of Radio Radio. Play the first cut that made me think maybe this won't be as bad as ours ours. I think I got one on the my town record for Montgomery Ginger but it was just now but the if you WanNa Bring Dirks Bentley into this I mean that's what just absolutely saved save me dirk side met because he was a newly signed orders on Capitol and so he hasn't come out yet and I'd bet he not only at the label but my brother was writing songs with him and and my brother ended up being as producer for like the first I think four records but so dark not just like you. game is kind of became buddies with lunch a few times and then all of a sudden he got a record deal and and I was I think I was still working capital and and we said you know I don't know if you know man but I'm writing songs to label. Got It right songs or whatever and we wrote one day. Hey we wrote one song. He ended up cutting which is asking songwriter. They'll be like I got it right thirty dollars to get one anyway. We wrote one day. We wrote one song he he caught it and then it was a single and it was a hit and it literally saved save me and my family you know and it gave me. I didn't have a publishing deal. I could not get the publishing deal in town and so what was the song it's called. How am I doing and I even rooted under pseudonym because I was still at the label wrote under a name called writer ex and it really pissed off a lot of people in town because they just pissed off. Maybe the right word it created a lot of interest in in people's curiosity like we all try so hard to get her name songs. Somebody who's using it as soon main. Who is all this stuff so it was fun. It was a talking point dirks and it wasn't that well kept secret but like Red Solo Cup fifteen seventeen years. Somebody still called neuro checks every week. They just thought it was funny. Natalie did that so this row this where did where did they hit. You remember got the number four really for and there was the first one you wrote like what Derek with Dirk Pearson only and yeah so does that open up other doors with Dirk specifically like if you have a hit with dirks top five song. Is You go. Hey we should get back together. I some more well with him. It did because we were we were in our friends. You know we have an actual real relationship and so yeah we then then I mean he went out and it kill the road like two hundred days a year but you know started writing regularly. Oh and make an erect it wouldn't be right in every week but I would try to come up with ideas for him and when he could squeeze a day in with me we would write in you know he's. He's been the biggest factor of of my career to this to this day and still great friends of. He's cut you know bunch. Songs of mine and for other artists a lot of times as a lot of these other songs. You've played played. I don't meet the artists until the number one party like you know just got played for them and they liked it and then they cut it and you just have the right song at the right time so the relationship really wouldn't air and sometimes you get one with them and sometimes you don't see him again so it's kind of weird. What was the one where you're like. I can't believe that artists decided to cut my song of all the artists. That's really weird that they they're. I liked that song. Wow well besides toby keith cutting anybody cutting Red Solo Cup Josh Turner cutting. Why don't we just dance. I didn't know him and I thought it was a great song I did I do remember thinking that I think this would be a really big songs and he was the perfect in but I realize until hurt. I'm singing and you need to know enough now. Here's a question after you Josh Turner or Luke or even Easton Corbin after you have hit with these artists in do you like exchange cell phone numbers and can take some time or is it just kind of like hello goodbye it can be a little both it depends on my experience has been it depends on where they are in their career. If it's Luke and he's already Luke Bryan and and you know he's just got people coming out the woodwork. We're trying to write with him or get him songs and and it's only natural that these people are going to have a little bit of a more closed circle. It's not like well. He he heard a song you wrote so now you're hunting and fishing eleven every day with him or something so It's usually more like that if you're coming around later in life and they're just just hearing a song you you. You may have a little bit more of an open door to them but I've never had Luke Bryan. Cut You know I've never had gesture. Do you have Josh on her cell phone number. I think do do you have Luke Bryan's. No I text him today. You want to just say on the air and I'll read it. Can you imagine up Luca my phone three different times. I text the two people that aren't Lucchini because they have it as Luke Luke Bryan new and Luke Bryan new real and so I stopped at number the little not famous around the most famous guy in our format how about Gary Allen you have the number. I have girls number. I've written with him a couple of times since watching airplanes yeah. Here's a watching airplanes which peaked peaked at number two the most frustrating at number one on one chart chart. I call him. Do you do of course number one. I would contest that would be like excuse me Sir songwriters like if you sniffed it if it was if it was number one for half a course on Saturday tonight I that's fair now. Here's what I say. I have a kid song then what number one on three different charts. There's not really a kids official chart though than not everyone was number one. I tunes for two weeks number one. It was number one on the Disney airplay number one right so I guess that counts when I can't make any chart it's my mom's favorite is my mom's the number one number one. This was a jam jams still jammed yeah. They still play the crap out and solve it so it's that's where my favorite song. I've ever did you write that with him no wrote with Jonathan Singleton and so but then you you're with him afterward you and Gary wrote other songs not until probably six or seven years after that really yeah yeah well. That's Kinda wild later when you're not even connected yeah. I you know it. I don't know I I you know some of these. Some of these writers are like they're best buddies with. Everybody and they're they're. They're hitting them up and then I. I don't know if I'm just not that kind of person or if I don't know how to do it. I'm definitely not very good at it. I don't I don't really get in always I. I'd like to think man if they like muscle. They're like my song and that'd be good enough but I'm not real good at working at but but yeah you do. You'll run into them and like I said there may be an open door like hey gary you uselessness song. This guy wrote watching planes. You know maybe that's as far as it goes. I don't know Billy Carrington. You have his number. I don't think so. I'm going to say no to that one. Yeah I'm feeling no way uh-huh because I know billy a little bit okay and I like billy but I don't have a number of once billy comes up and he writes on a piece of paper and he writes down yeah.."
