In the morning twelve till the national rifle association's annual convention takes place today through sunday in dallas texas clayton neville says dallas police have some major security plans in place for the gathering eighty thousand people plan to attend the convention alone not including protesters or counter protesters the president and vice president are both scheduled to speak at the convention friday the dallas police department says it's prepared for a busy few days but we'll have help from other agencies dallas fire rescue office of emergency management federal state local law enforcement agencies and nra leadership assistant dallas police chief paul stokes says the department is aware of plans for protesters to occupy areas outside of the k baileyhutchison convention center through the weekend and that it won't infringe on anyone's rights and less the law is broken will not be able to take the street we will not tolerate property destruction will not tolerate violent behavior still says police are aware many people will be armed and are okay with that as long as it's in accordance with the law state law open carry concealed carry constitution carry kerry we are not prohibiting all during the president and vice president's speeches guns will be prohibited inside the forum some of call that decision hypocritical of the nra but it's a rule of the secret service the convention begins today with registration and a banquet tonight the annual meeting begins tomorrow with the press and vice president in attendance the meeting in sunday i'm clayton neville it's eleven till correspondent tj katini says the boy scouts are changing their name.
