A highlight from #129 Freedom In Christ

Knowing Faith

I'm joined by my co host Jin wilkin and JT, English, good morning. Jen wilkin, with the good hair, we're talking about JT first thing he popped on was like Janet your hair looks great. Jen looks fabulous today, everybody. I just want you to know. It's an illusion. I'm cooling you. Yeah, I literally told the one family member who's home. I'm like the good news is they can't see anything but the forward facing version of me, so probably be fine. That was great. It was great. As we've both of you have made it very clear on this show, I don't have any here. So any air in my view is good here. It's good. Wow. Yeah. It's a compliment. You have it. You have it. I'll tell this joke about misplaced compliments. I don't know that I've told this story before, but my wife's gonna not be happy with me for this. But okay, you have a moment. When you're in. When Lauren and I were dating. Okay, and I had never dated. Okay, Lauren was the first and the only girl I ever dated. Efficient. And yes, and so when we were dating, I was lactose intolerant, but did not know it. So I would go we would go eat food and if I had dairy, I would eat just a few bites and start not feeling well. And would not ever finish what I was when I started eating. But Lauren, you know, like a normal person who's hungry would go and she would eat she'd eat the food. And I'd be like, I did not know that I had something that was inhibiting me from eating. And I would always be like, wow, baby, you really ate all the food. That's incredible. And she'd be like, let me tell you something. That's not a compliment you give to a woman. Like why you're dating. Like, this is not something you celebrate. I grew up around like a brother. I didn't have any sisters growing up. So we were always told, hey, eat everything, and then we were celebrated for eating everything. So I just thought that's what you did. Evidently, not a compliment you wanted to pay. But good hair, that is the compliment. Good hair. Okay. Well, your hair looks good. I feel good about it. Thank you. Yeah. Oh, good, good. Well, I'm glad we've affirmed it sufficiently. We're now attitude to try to transition this. Watch this. Now we're going to get into a passage that has true affirmation Hey, don't come in me. I'm a professional kid. You actually are really good. That was good transition. That one maybe was not a good illustration. Well, let's assume the best. Well, we're gonna jump into Roman's 8 today. This is a passage. I feel like if somebody knows Romans, Roman's 8 is probably the passage that they're familiar with, even if they don't know that like some verse comes from Romans 8 or passage comes from Romans 8 or a line or truth, they've heard it. They've been around it because it is a really glorious chapter in what is a very dense and glorious letter. And so we're going to jump into Roman's 8 and I'm going to read a portion of Roman's 8. I'm not going to read all of Roman's 8, but I am going to read Roman's 8 12 through 17. And then we will jump in to exploring this together. I've been reading a lot recently. I feel like the last few episodes I've been doing, can somebody else read Roman's 8 12 through 17? I'll do it. JT, be happy, too. You're up. Oh, well, that's fine. Now we gotta find hair while we hear your excellent reading skills. Well, now I feel like there's some pressure. But I'm gonna go anyway because we were airs with Christ. Thank you. Hairs with Christ. Oh my gosh. That was really important together now. I can't believe I missed that. All right, well done. 12 to 17. So then brothers, we are debtors not to the flesh to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die. But if you live by the spirit, you put to death the deeds of the body you will live. For all who were led by the spirit of God or sons of God, for you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry ABBA father. The spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. And if children then errors, airs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. It's good. That is good news. And this chapter is full of good news. I mean, think about Roman's 8 one right out of the gate, right? There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, bang. I mean, if there is, you know, I think John piper has called them battle versus. I've heard other people call them fighter versus. Just short versus to memorize for encouragement as we walk with the lord. This has got to be one of my top shorts succinct. Hold that away in your heart. I don't know that there's a day of my life where I do not need to hear there's no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Isn't that good? It's real good. And I like that it's attached to it, therefore, because we get to ask. What's there for there for? Well, tell us, Jen, what are for? Gosh. We're going to get some of this one. We are. So Jen, why don't you tell us what to therefore is there for me? What's Paul been saying, leading up to the chapter? Why is this landing with such clarity and hopefulness at this moment?
