Online courses in liberal arts and sciences creative writing and professional development winter classes begin january 16th continuing studies that stand for that edu this is all things considered from npr news i'm kelly mcevers in culver city california and i mary louise kelly in washington where it has been quite a week on capitol hill with three members of congress announcing their resignations over allegations of sexual misconduct the first came on tuesday democratic congressman john conyers today congress served almost fifty three years in the house a settlement with a former staffer became public in recent weeks and he faced other accusations congress dismissed them as part of the game of politics there are no accurate or they're not true i can't explain where he like a breath then came wednesday and the new allegation against him critics senator al franken a woman said he tried to kiss her in two thousand six when he was a radio host which he denies but by mid day senator kirstin jila brand and many other democrat said enough is enough and i think when we start having to talk about the differences between sexual assault and sexual harassment and unwanted groping you are having the wrong conversation need to draw a line in the sand as say none of it is okay and then the next day thursday franken announced his resignation i of all people am aware that there is some irony in the fact that i am leaving while a man who has bragged on tape about his history of sexual assault sits in the oval office in the man who has repeatedly preyed on young girls campaigns for the senate with the full support of his party just hours later republican congressman trend francs said he would resign in january but then today he said his resignation was effective immediately following all this is npr congressional correspondent susan davis and she is with us from capitol hill hey hey county so this has been a pretty remarkable week at three members of congress announcing they'd resign in the wake of allegations of inappropriate sexual behaviour and put this in perspective for us you know i think republicans and democrats alike certainly at the top party leadership ranks recognize that what is happening in this moment is bigger than congress it certainly bigger than any one lawmaker and they're trying.
