Stars in the N. B. A. R. perhaps the biggest stars in the landscape of sports in North America and beyond in the man who joins us now takes care of some of the most valuable and talented and gifted athletes on the planet his name is rob McClanahan he's a trainer in his new book is net work to play on words network two words training the NBA's best in finding the keys to great is rob thank you for joining us thank you am I really appreciate it Dr you played at Syracuse your walk on it Syracuse twenty years ago you're forty years old now what led you into training yeah I made valid question it'd be reason I wrote this book to question every date a lot of these guys trust you guys for loud walk on and I get it right the forty dollar question I know you don't have to get started you know I used to work myself up all the time in high school and rely on things like that but then when I really good Syracuse this so you know Mike Hopkins with one of my mentors you know what the work out stuff in in the just the way you would be working out got to chase and already taught listed at six AM beginners sweating in the bag and I really enjoyed it and it was I didn't even though you know develop was kinda like that and then after I graduated I I CO two September for yourself Florida that I went on to internet I've G. cavity with a bat what have you were just starting every summer does the teacher what I learned I was amazed you could actually work and therefore living. cool you know and I just assumed it was you know the NBA teams of your local to though don't get but that wasn't the off season and so working out kids quite honestly just twelve year olds what your kids and reliable it kind of grew from there and I got a DVD camp and all that stuff so cannot just does happen and it wasn't really so when I look up to it was a template for because it didn't exist really when I was in a twenty four twenty four twenty five. McClanahan the trainer to the NBA stars among them Steph curry wrote the foreword to his new book network training the NBA's best and find keys to greatness Kevin Durant Kevin love Derrick rose Russell Westbrook so you're dealing with some of the biggest stars in the game obviously you know what happens when you don't have time for somebody is not a big star they take it personally yes we have a few times it it because I really try to make time for. even the non stars because you know I've seen a lot of guys that you know what also the misstep car with all sorts of four years now now look at him so I was like the so called on the dog and and I actually like this why should anybody get better so you know my old boss you'd always banditry calendar outlook retreat Julie got it out it's the same work out real it's just maybe Kevin deal I'll see does a better so yeah they they they've been tied yellow the web is weird feeling bono I try to I try to you know. I want to say really what is twelve years older Kevin. how much is the work out about specific things each guy is trying to achieve and how much is just. a template word general success in basketball. yeah every god definitely enough to be different so I go into the market every year every offseason let's. you know what add maybe two drinks a big cheer game but also my book for us to be able to continue to work on your strengths I think a lot of players that especially young age they always work in a week this is right and it's not really what they're good at and I think as you climb up the division one of the NBA yeah you really have to figure out what you're good at in an MBA you really got a great one thank really lasted that BA so was so with me at all of course you have dental of you know you could be a great shooter a Disney stop getting better at that right you know let's let's structures go fifty one percent maybe to fifty two percent look folks really what you're good at it continue to work on your you know cortical weaknesses but do you can approve it you know at the big there already you have a great eye for a long time but it is definitely template at the disdain HM yeah I mean yeah there's no more like a badge reels you know you're not really doing a lot of that stuff anymore actually changed a lot I started doing this you know now if you summers ago I worked up working Robert Lopez and. which shuttles reporters you know what I did their pre draft no wait and it was everything in the post well the album the most it also is G.. it's changed a lot you know it's just funny because Whataburger Robert number twenty is old and now they'll say thirtieth of been technical fall during the legal working on three separate goes in and buy the best three point shooters and Milwaukee to go to make it a middle aged fifty two millions of the you know so in this day and age definitely changed the for the players and therefore they may you know you have six nine point guard yes six nine centers in okay migrants let's send it also I have no doubt that a lot as well. rob McClanahan the trainer to the NBA's best players his new book is network training the NBA's bass in finding the keys. to greatness and your your work in these guys hard as everybody knows their health means so much not only to themselves and their families but to the franchise's basketball is a sport in which arguably you know a single great talent can make the biggest difference make the biggest impact change everything with that in mind I mean he. it must be arm you must be nerve wracking at times when you see a guy. heard himself while you're working on now where you know agent every injury could have such big consequences right in you've got a you've got to you've got a man is that fine line between getting everything you want and not working a guy out too much we could get himself for it how do you manage that. yeah definitely I mean the black adult really learned early on you know what I got don't you have better at it as as I could do to do this but you know I got lucky really out our first major group was. rose west working K. love and there were done to get every day do the house work and I've seen in my life so one day I would be would ban was turning down and I've always said well turn a guy down the drain a month but yeah there were times I had to say listen I'm give me the weekend off not because I'm lazy because I want to be able to go hard money to the mother does a fine next week so you know what your body recover and it's still you know June let's say nearly plane you just played eighty two games he played maybe ninety. so everybody's different we approach it but yeah the days off I always say is arbitrary that's that's that's part of the schedule your days off it with me I I going out I'm very sufficient well done easy our vacation all game stuff some guys a calendar and doesn't want a water break so you might be done fifty minutes yeah it's it's official worker everything to gain stuff is no gimmick you won't see me with fifteen chairs out there and ten pounds in. you know if we're going to change a little bit over tired but I still stood to gain stuff but a quick quick story about Russell I gave a Sunday off one time the really really want to work out so that we can call you get a day off of me going off at three weeks because our yeah right you're right so how would I get a call from a guy of UCLA's the boys after working out. also what is father. it also will guide you to hold should for some guys it it we like people have to run six miles every day ten K. everyday regardless because more about the mental benefits and had de Roo you know the endorphins that it is about the benefits from the work out physically. yes yes definitely yet that that's the kind of there the drug you know so the date they just need to have work out every day and okay it is only going to happen to this this guy would be flying in all the time you know during the season would work out in season and out we did a Nike torn Europe two years back to four cities in Barcelona Paris Milan and Rome you think. Asian chill out but now I have to go with you want to work out every day and we will the little white every day to work like you got over there like a house chill out now well that's why they're great and and you know I would say the most you work out change your career now but if you add those up you sprinkle made over the course of ten years yeah those. those really do add up and and that's why I listen that's why this place a great is not. not a coincidence he's the man the stars turn to to make them super stars his name is rob McClanahan in his new book is network training the NBA's best and finding the keys to greatness Robert it's always a pleasure to hear Rhode Island accent on the show thank you for your love it thank you have a..
