Here Marin Radio Presents Nascar today in Sunny Southern California hosts the Nascar Winston Cup series today the contest of speed and bit road decision. Making hello again. I'm joe more along with Dave Moody. Today who's pinch hitting for Barney Hall taking this weekend off. Welcome to our radios live coverage of the NAPA auto parts. It's five hundred. The Winston Cup series has been racing here at the California speedway for five years. Now it seems as facility gets better each year and larger and larger crowds are coming out out to see NASCAR racing today. Sellout crowd over ninety two thousand of the grandstands not counting a packed infield here to see the NAPA five hundred. This is a two mile. Trial will racetrack Dave Moody but a lot of the attention. Racier is focused on pit road while many many times here both in Winston Cup competition and on the Nascar Busch series. We've seen the final collapsed. Come down to a question of fuel. Mileage Pin strategy teams will be working the calculators all day long try to figure out what the proper setup is not necessarily spending running all day at the front of the pack. Either we've seen drivers work in the middle of the back of the pack for most of the day. Try to conserve few mileage. Make the most of the draft and then come on late and get those few extra laps in the gas tank that takes to go all the way to the finish and sometimes steal a win a lot of times. The gambling comes into play getting close to the end of a race here to determine who's going to win and and sometimes we do see surprise. Winter's here today's races also a neat little matchup of the youth versus veterans in Nascar Winston Cup racing. We have two rookies in the first four positions nations and six drivers in the top ten under thirty years of age. Ryan Newman and Kurt. Busch Jimmie Johnson. They've all made a very strong case for the twentysomethings. If you will hear this weekend but I also don't think is like Dale. Jared and Rusty Wallace are exactly ready for the home yet. Either with all due respect to the young bucks that blew away Mike. Skinner's track record here on Friday. It takes more than bravery at a heavy foot to succeed here on Sundays. More than anything else. This track rewards patience and consistency and a cool head and those are not necessarily trait. H You find in the youngsters but a great mix here today of youth and experience should make for very interesting. Five hundred mile veteran racers have won this race before the previous five years. Jeff Gordon Jordan. Did it twice. Mark Martin. And Ninety eight Jeremy Mayfield the winner here. In two thousand and Rusty Wallace the defending winner of the NAPA auto parts five hundred back at the California Cornea speedway on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Closing in on the start of the NAPA auto parts five hundred this race track showed it was going to be very fast this weekend. Pole qualifying on Friday when four drivers set you track record in qualifying for today's race fastest of all of them. Ryan Newman scored his second career. Bud Pole for this event. Jim Phillips of Newport Tennessee is standing by with our repulse center and he talks about one hundred eighty seven point four three two miles per hour. The Bud Pole. Woody speak first of the year second of your career Ryan that was one lap. What's IT GONNA take whatever circa two hundred for you today? A whole lot of variables racecar today all mobile one Ford Taurus and I got good engine and obviously we showed that in qualifying. We've got one that's GonNa live all day You know we. We've been pretty conservative on it. We've been pretty decent year and You know just not running you are not getting a lot of miles on it to be conservative to it and hopefully that'll pay off and you know we can have a good race lasts. Four finishes have not been very good mess. It's been thirty seven. So is it hard to stay focused. When having bad luck I mean you were running? Good last week had bad luck. It's just hard for me to focus as it. Is everybody else team together. We pull each joe and everybody together and that's important that's good teamwork and nothing. We bounced back and qualified on the pole. Here California as exactly right. You'll get one for the years out the rookie Ryan Newman Sophomore.
