Right. Three thirty six our time right now Steve Edwards. In for Jillian, and John Liz mentioned podcast. Let me take a moment. I have a new podcast. I know everybody has a new podcast out there. But I haven't new podcast out there that just went up, and it is with a person whom I love and a lot of you love and a person that was my co host and still is my close friend, and that is Christina Ferrari, Christina Ferrari was a supermodel of teenage star talk show host bestselling author. Few marriages one to John DeLorean lot of you will remember that a wonderful marriage now to Tony from operas. She is she has multiple myeloma. She's fighting it right now. She also had some ups and downs in her career. This podcast is very real very funny and very emotional all in one. So that's Steve's confessions, and you can get that podcast right here on KABC dot com or you go to itunes as well. And it's up with Christina Ferrari. And thank you for your going to listen to it. And thank you if you'd up. All right. I'm excited because the next guy joining me right now is a guy know pretty well. Here's a legend in his own time, and it is own mind. Right right Firestone is with us, ROY journalist, sports commentator, and so much more. And I'm gonna talk about the so much more in a couple of minutes. Here. Roy something happened with the Washington. Can we call them Redskins or not? That opens up a reopened up a controversy. That's been going on. Yeah. Well, let's a little historical perspective. And Steve thank you for having me on your show. It's my pleasure. Roy. Yet. The Washington Redskins. Traditionally, and then you load, this is has been one of the most conservative organizations the history of sports, professional sports. They will not be last team to innovate. I think he went back or this is sixty two. Bobby mitchell. I believe. George Preston Marshall was you know, there was almost the side of the NFL exaggerating a little bit, but they were very slow too. So they're conservative organization, and you know, that they have turned down the opportunity for Charlie Chaplin back to be quarterback, which we'll get to in a second. But I want to talk about what I think is a hallway hypocrisy. This is the same team Steven you're dating spring required. Even foster this is the running back who was charged with the best of violence. He had three charges involved. They picked him up. There was a bunch of people screaming and yelling comfortably do this. Of course, the league immediately put them. The situation where he wasn't going to be able to play the Commissioner's exempt list, but think about this for second. They were willing to Redskins were even with their conservative backward to acquire a player it again, we have to get into judicata. We don't know if he's innocent or guilty multiple charges. In fact, he had a sweet different charges pending in the in the last year one was a marijuana charge. But one was a domestic violence threats assault weapons possession. They acquired this guy, and they don't even want to think or consider carbon capture that. And you know, it's tied into the media saying that they tried to make it at eight. Oh, he he is ready to place in two years. You still an athlete? So I think there's a hypocrisy here. With a knee issue or not, you know to protest take you which by the way to dozens of players were still doing it. The idea of this guy can't even get a look from the Washington Redskins are pretty much any team to meet update, ROY they they they brought in four guys. They looked at four guys cavern Nick wasn't among them. And they ended up with a guy that I had to double check and see who he is because he's a player, but I'd forgotten about that he existed. Well, you know, the thing is they had Mark Sanchez who they had McCoy. They had a bunch of other players on the. Yeah. Yeah. Injuries better player than any of those games. He's gone to a Super Bowl. He may not be a great player. But I will tell you something there are three ways to come at this issue. One. Is he is Catholic? You don't want him around because he disgraces the flag, and he dishonors fighting men and women that's one argument. The other argument if you're forum is no no he's getting to an important issue. But the third is if I owned the team if I if I bring Colin Kaepernick is my backup quarterback, what am I asking for what am I asking for that point? You're talking about distraction Warwickshire tech about in terms of the the media. I'm talking about distraction wise. That's all anybody. Forget about sports shows. That's all anybody would talk about. That's all anybody would cover. But here's the thing. And I. You know, you're seeing high school kids taken to me. I mean, what do you agree with the the demonstration to protest or not by the way, he ran this by a Vietnamese? Iraqi veteran day foyer was what what would be the most respectful way to protest the veteran told them to take any sort not actually read it. Right, right. Never been trying to be disrespectful flag. He says he's not trying to be respected disrespectful to the military. It's just something that he no. He wanted to make a point about cop guys beating up on black is basically, but that got lost because because the narrative change to the disrespect for the flag that narrative seems to be winning. But what I'm saying to you? Let's say for a moment for the sake of conversation. I own the Washington. Can we call them Redskins team? Okay. I'm the guy. I have it. And I like column I think he's a good quarterback. And he's certainly better than the other people out there. I don't want to deal with it. I if I bring him in that is all I will deal with that's all my team will here. And as you know, that we're distraction is where the most use were words in football. We don't want any distractions on our team that would make me make a decision not based on what I think about the issue. But what I think about what would come from it. I think it's a fair argument. But the bottom line is if you're willing to pick up in foster, I know, they're not exactly the same thing. But what's a bigger distraction? Should he have been able to play? And he's not gonna be able to play right now. What what's a bigger distraction to pick it up a guy who was charged with the domestic it's issue. I mean, you're talking about two different things. I get it. But you and you're you're talking about distractions. I mean, I don't think there's anything more distracting than picking up a guy like we've been forced will. But but but that's not that's not. So I mean, he's been a distraction. But nothing nothing like Colin Kaepernick, you know, on the flip side for different reasons, you know, and, you know, him well, and you've covered Tim tebow, Tim entirely different story. But any team that picked him up had to deal with the coverage of them at that point is only about Tim tebow? Even if he's not playing. I understand that too. And by the way. It's a stretch. But it's true. The need for his religious beliefs. But I know it's a completely different issue. But when you talk about people say keep the religion at the field. There's another demonstration of some sort. I mean it again completely different say, oh, I'm saying to you is a perennially conservative organization like the Washington skips picking up Reuben foster off waivers play makes us state. Guy charged with domestic violence, and the guy who openly protests that justices again, you don't have to agree with the protest or not. But you gotta see pharmacy. Well, if I'm a businessman, let's again, I Le let's say for the sake of argument. I love Colin Kaepernick. I don't want half my fans or more than them angry with me, maybe boycotting. And every question how many would be angry with the domestic angle. Sadly, sadly, ROY much much less much less. People don't stay away because. I gotta take a break. Can you hang around here for a minute? Of course, absolute. Well, thank you very much because he's more to talk about about this. But there's also something I had a conversation with you the other day that I found surprising and it had to do with. Well, I'll tell you what this. We'll take a quick break. I will tell a lot of you will be shocked with ROY has to say, it's KABC. I'm Steve Edwards on in for Jillian. And Dorothy Dorothy, I just fell back to the old days, Jillian, and John KABC will be back. He.
