Listen: Freddie Mercury, Freddie, Malik discussed on Filmspotting
"Come on. Josh come on. You're not doing it. This is like right now, you're immediately Britain me back to the middle. School bus. Totally right. Like, you're going to attract meat or something. They started last in. We will rock you. We are the champions Remy. Malik, freddie. Mercury with Gwilym lease Brian May in bohemian rhapsody. Yes. I wouldn't saw bohemian rhapsody did. Yep. I I'm I'm a sucker for bio-pics. I'm a sucker for music bio-pics. That doesn't mean I always love every music by OPEC that I see I wanted so badly to come here on the show and say that all the critics. Yeah. And their negative review under the guy so off base, right? And I was going to make the case for bohemian rhapsody. But I can't there's a scene about halfway through the film where Malik as Freddie Mercury. He's just throwing this wild party. And then a guy who's actually working for him that night, they have a long conversation in the night. And. They share some of their most inner thoughts, or at least Freddie does with him. It's Jim Hutton is the man that he is talking to who does end up. We learned becoming one of Freddie's lovers in the last part of his life and in the scene, Jim says, so all your friends have left you alone. Freddie says they're not my friends not really there distractions. Jim says from what he says the inbetween moments, I suppose, I find me intolerable all of the darkness. You thought you'd left behind comes creeping back in this scene is definitely doing some heavy lifting for the screenplay. Don't get me wrong. But it's also the rare in between moment, we actually get in bohemian rhapsody a scene where we get something of a real glimpse of what it might have been like to be Freddie, Mercury. Otherwise, bohemian rhapsody is made up almost entirely of contrived bio-pic signposts. It's a queen's greatest hits of moments. The things that drive me crazy and bio-pics. It's as if they decided to construct the entire film. Around them or the filmmakers sat down with a list of songs and performances and a time line, and we're determined to fit every one of them in without much regard for the whole thing as a story. So we get John deacon the bass player bringing the bass riff to another one bites the dust to the band, and we get Brian May's stop stop, clap of we will rock you. We'll get Freddie. Mercury working on the opening piano bit to Baheen rhapsody, and we've just a poor twenty something and the piano is right above his bed when he sleeps. So he can twinkle on whenever he feels like. And it's the thing. He just keeps coming back to that. Of course is going to be their big monster hit. Why did Freddie? Mercury. Hold a Mike the way he does. Well, we see the origin of that as well. The movies just constantly winking at you is if to say, you see that or you recognize that. Yeah. Of course, you do. Here's another one. We're just going to keep giving them to you. I did see somewhere that one of the movies. Most blatant manipulations is with the order of. Events at the end of the film the way we see Queen breaks up. Freddie is diagnosed with aids, and it all culminates."
