Listen: Aaron Rodgers, Baker Mayfield, Damien Woody discussed on First and Last with Lundberg and Golic, Jr.
"Giving the Packers. Some unique blitz situations where they brought both linebackers safety Harrison Smith up on the centers head, and it was almost like I was waiting for the Packers to go to the sidelines Rogers and Mike McCarthy and go, okay. Next time. They give us this. We're going to check to this at the line of scrimmage get to three receivers set and never gonna gas and it never happened. And that was that was the takeaway, I had this thing. I agree with you coach is not a lot of weapons, but they're also wasn't a plan for how Minnesota was coming after that falls on the coaches. And that's something that also is a part of the quarterbacks duty, but we understand Aaron Rodgers also has that duty of going out there and physically performing those things. And so while adjustments can come the coaching staff needs to be more than just existing there in these elements. So I understand that's the reason Mike I can't imagine Mike McCarthy's with the Packers beyond the season based on all of this. The singular focus the commitment to Aaron Rodgers financially this off season. This seems like the place where they're going to live, and it's going to be where they coached out who the right coach ends up being come in there and tried to push a new offense on Aaron Rodgers one that might be more schematically friendly to him because I don't think he's totally without weapons. I mean, we've been beating the drum for Aaron Jones to get more touches asking you shall receive this weekend coming out of the backfield for them. Jordy nelson. I under I understand was one of his favorite targets, and he's gone. But Davante Adams has started to really emerge into that guy. There's some young talent on this roster at the receiver position. But that's just it. It's young. And when it's healthy is offense of line. Does a good job in protecting him. The defense is getting better. It's not a total deficiency of talent the way it's always been made out to be. But we also have to lose this idea that yes, Aaron Rodgers has been asked to be perfect and this year, we've latched onto certain things like Aaron Rodgers being twenty eighth and completion percentage, and it being sub sixty and all these different things that sort of exclude the fact that I heard two things one is that Aaron Rodgers I believe leads the NFL incompletions with over twenty yards in that scenario. So he's going deep better than most people despite what that anecdotal evidence of devante Adams from the other night will provide and he's also throwing the ball away a lot more. And I feel like that's something we need to factor in if we're gonna talk about completion percentage Aaron Rodgers in an offense. That's got a lot of young guys were guys aren't probably are going to be on the same page at certain elements that requires a fair amount of timing in order for air Rogers to throw you open and make you look right is now is taking fewer chances with the football in a time. Mary where he knows that is the ultimate commodity where I am not. Yes. Getting bailed out in a way that some other quarterbacks might get bailed out by their defense by there. Run game with the same level of consistency. So good to take care of the football. I'm going to throw a few more way I'm gonna live to play another down. And I think that's an okay way to manage the situation right now until things get a little bit better. At least that's what he feels like he's forced into that. May not be one hundred percent, correct. But it seems like enough of the reality to where I'm not going to sit here and now act like there's been a massive drop off in accuracy in the air Rogers. Yes has been imperfect at certain points in this year that is fair to say that he by his own other-worldly standard has not always been Aaron Rodgers this season. But I also think the hype is a bit overrated in that first and last Michael junior here on ESPN radio and the ESPN app. The other thing we ought to address as we go something old and something new because man Aaron Rodgers said the other day, it may not be as many grays as he likes to hint at in his beard at this point. But that beard is getting long erogenous is looking like he is aging through this process of having to shoulder the weight of an entire franchise and era. And Rogers with a bit of relief in whatever form it comes. Whether it's adding another major weapon or adding a more offense of mine coach that is a guy. I would like to see I'd like to see the glow back in Aaron Rodgers is. I know Dan Le Batard over the Dan lebatardshow is to God's who is a man crush on Aaron Rodgers that is unmatched in untied probably feels the same way the same. Love is not being lost right now between Baker Mayfield and our own Damien. Woody and it was interesting yesterday Damien Woody came out strong take his appearance at I take talking about. How Baker Mayfield needed to grow up? How Baker Mayfield who had the cold exchange of data with Hugh Jackson, his former head coach after their win over the Bengals how Baker Mayfield needed to grow up. How certain things needed to change for Baker Mayfield. Who also in college left, Texas Tech in favor of Oklahoma. Baker Mayfield had a response for Damien Woody essentially, saying nice, try I didn't I didn't have a scholarship at Texas Tech for lack of a better term Fitzsimons. Coast of Freddie and Fitz Simons on ESPN radio every Monday through Friday, kind of some this up. Well, I think for good friend Damien Woody. You could not be more incorrect in in bringing of Texas Tech and Oklahoma. Baker Mayfield was the big twelve freshman of the year playing quarterback at Texas Tech. And he was asking if he's guaranteed a scholarship. He was not being guaranteed a scholarship by cliff Kingsbury. So he decides to some the big twelve freshman of the year, and you're not going to guarantee me a scali tell you what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna go walk over here at Oklahoma. And come back and kick your bleep first and last Michael junior here on ESPN radio Scalise. One of those words that reads better than it sounds when you say like, you just gotta say scholarship when it comes up in conversation typing scali, thumbs up sayings. Golly. Thumbs down. We've made that ruling. So let it be written. So let it be done. Now. I take tweeted out a video clip of Damian. Take yesterday. Baker Mayfield responded on Instagram, which is a whole other bag of awesome in two thousand eighteen not even comparable. I didn't lose thirty plus games be fake. And then do that. I wasn't going to have a scholarship good. Try though, buddy. And that's a one of those. I'm not sure buddy guy kind of moments and so- Damien Woody goes on his own Instagram feed. Again, screengrabs all of this and responds with this too. Big."
