Listen: Macbook, Philip, Dennen discussed on Rocket
"But yeah, but your point breathe like I have. No, like, if it were me, I mean, other than at this point of Philip the twelve inch macbook is a status symbol object. And that's it. Yeah. I mean, I think it's a great machine. But I'm saying you don't have to dance little machine. Why don't think it's useless? But I think as of today, there's no reason why you get the MAC book over the MAC book amp slightly smaller, isn't it? Yeah. It is. But but but it's it's it's the new macbook air is still small mule MAC book air. And so I mean, it's it's smaller. But it's I don't know. I I don't feel like that. I don't feel like the, you know. Half an inch. I don't even know I don't I don't feel like I don't feel like that. What's the price difference between them again? The hundred bucks is is starting price. But also the thing too is that you get you know, like. A second. Use a second thunderbolt. Right, which to me would would be far more important than. I mean, I say this is someone who really I I have the twelve inch MAC book. I love it. I bought a third generation, but this year finally moved back to a MAC book pro right where my portable Rasheed. So I have an I MAC of thirteen inch macbook pro the truth that I've found in my experience is that the twelve inch MAC book just has too many compromises to make a truly usable day by day machine. The third generation the chip is faster. But Dunkel hell is a real L. It's terrible. It's horrible. I hate bringing that darn thing around everywhere. It's frustrating to not be will plug in USB keys, and I realize as a problem that knowns us across the entire MAC book lined, but the keyboard the travel on it blows. You know, it's just a how about this. My first one I dropped it in a hotel bathroom in like Dennen. It very very seriously in the side. It's relatively fragile. So. You know, when it comes to this computer being out like a friend of the show Joanna stern over WSJ. She loves loves loves loves loves her macbook air, and she was clapping when this came out is for I don't understand it because it's the exact same machine as the twelve inch MAC book except just got trained or form factor and maybe slightly faster. I literally don't understand this. Yeah. I think that so many people have really great memories of what a workhorse the air was right. Because honestly, like the first air was this overpriced, really then beautiful laptop that you couldn't really get any work done on. And then when the twenty ten remodel happened, and then especially twenty eleven when they started updating the specs more like you've suddenly you had like this form factor where you had the everyman computer where you had this MAC that you know, you had Maxine you had USB you had a an ST card slot. Like you could do. Do what you had a eventually the ad like a mini display port a thing. Like, it was awesome. And it was far more powerful. And you could do way more on it than you thought you could. And then you know, so light that you forgot about it. And I think people just kind of like gravitated towards not. And that was like, oh my gosh. This is the best ultra book ever. And that's why every single ultra book copied the MAC book air. I think the problem is is like you said like at this point. I'm also it was the cheap one relatively speaking. And for a lot of people that meant that you could, you know, especially with discounts and stuff, you could get in the door for thousand twelve hundred dollars and have a very reliable machine. And you know, certainly like I had one at Mashabela Gizmodo, I usually used macbook pros. But but like, my work issued machine was was a MAC book air, and I did Zo much stuff on them in the way more than you would think that you would.."
