Kauffman, CBS News. More than 4 million Americans paid for tax preparation that was supposed to be free and thanks to a nationwide settlement, lots of consumers in our area will see checks in their mailbox this month more from WTO's Kate Ryan. The awards from a $141 million settlement with Intuit which owns TurboTax are being mailed out across the country, and more than 200,000 people in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia are among those getting some of that settlement cash. Bill gruen is with the attorney general's office in Maryland. What the state's alleged was that into it misled people into purchasing their tax program. That's despite the fact that those same taxpayers qualified for free tax preparation under an IRS program. Intuit did not admit wrongdoing, but did issue a statement saying in part, Intuit is pleased to have reached a resolution with the state attorneys general, the payments will average between 29 and $30.
