Listen: Rick Grimes, Darryl, Daryl discussed on Post Show Recaps
"The OG character. Whose is we're looking at this through certainly in this episode very much felt like miss, Shannon, very much felt like tonight Carreira, I really thought that at the point where we're going to move on from Rick that we were going to sort of recenter the series around Daryl. And okay. So we ended up spending most of the episode with Michelle on and I think that that was a good decision. But we hardly saw Darryl. It blows my mind that in this new world where I thought that we're going to be sort of if anything Arul and Michelle and Carol maybe co leads Darryl had nothing. No story. He caught a fish. He did he cut the fishy. That was the Dow fishy this week. But other than that. I I was so surprised that they did nothing with Daryl in the reboot. I'm not mad at it. I think I think patience is a virtue here. This is something. So. I was on the Walking Dead comic book club with Jessica lease the other week if you want to hear about any of this stuff from that spoiler recontact, the comic book context, we're not doing spoiler zone here in this podcast, Justin. I really exhausted everything that's coming up in the near future. If Walking Dead the show sticks to the Walking Dead comic book scripts. So if you're curious about that, I recommend checking it out. I think with this show one of one of the things that we were talking about with Angela king stepping in is that really think that pacing has been a great weapon in her arsenal. Where just this season alone so much time has passed in this in this ban of two episodes six years have passed. But even before that there was a year and a half time Jim between seasons eight nine. There was a more than a month long time jump between the first and second episodes this season. So for me the way that she tells stories it's so much faster and so much more deliberate than the way that Walking Dead has been portrayed in the recent past. Especially where seasons. Six seven and eight were all like five days of misery. It feels like that. Like, I'm good. I'm good for the speed that that king is telling this story in especially that especially by some will with me where if she if she wants to slow play a little bit of what's going on with Daryl. I'm I'm interested to know what she has in store. I think one of the tricky things that the show has to do right now is for us. We've just lost Andrew Lincoln from the show for us. We apparently have not lost Andrew Lincoln from the universe forever. So you kind of have to reconcile those things. But for these characters Rick has been gone from their lives for six years. And you imagine that that's going to have greater impact on some people than others. And you also got to imagine they're probably not going to linger on it for a terribly long time. But if there is a character through whom they can kind of naturally linger on that being like, an ever-present quality in their life outside of machine in the way that she's still with Judith. And now. She kind of burying Lee that Rick Grimes apparently. Stayed the on target and there's a new there's a new air in the Grimes empire. I'm sure we'll get into all that so much shown is certainly a person that is going to still be very tethered to Rick in that way. But she has this more active momentum of other things that she seems to be doing with Darryl is a guy who was already in the first part of this season. Being like, this is no good. We should not be bringing new people here. I should not be in this leadership position. I don't like any of that. He really wanted to get primal again. And now Rick is gone probably in his mind, largely because he failed his friend that he tried to help Maggie kill Neagh in all that was a disaster. And then Rick blows up right in front of him. As far as you can tell it makes a lot of sense for me that he's just going to put himself in exile that he's just gonna go and self. It's in six years.."
