"Way, Matt Stafford as Niner quarterback. We hardly knew ye because Aaron Rodgers is the new nine X squared to that shifters, Schefter Stern it up their folly, stirring it up, saying managers could say, you know, by the way, How about Jared Goff going? Whoa, Wait, What? No. There's a lot of people get moved, driving Garoppolo and and Jared golfer like on a conference call right now going hey, jeered this. I guess we're both out of a job, apparently, because so forget it by if we were doing this show Saturday, Matt Stafford was locked and loaded as the next Niner quarterback on then, if we were doing the show, you know, a week ago, which we were to Shawn Watson was locked and loaded as the next night or quarterback. Att's some point. Matt Ryan was in there somewhere, wasn't he? He was in there somewhere. Ryan Watson Stafford Aaron Rodgers. What happened to Zack Wilson, the BYU quarterback member? There was a point in the season where he was the guy who, Um, who my forgetting Justin Fields out of Ohio State. Maybe. How about the quarterback to actually have Garoppolo? You're the only guy They said You're the last guy standing with. I'll tell you. Come on. What do you give me? Floor poly Standing with Jimmy G to the bitter end and me standing with Joe over Tom Brady to the bitter end, Right? Probably. That's pretty good. 10. You and me both follow. We're both in our trenches. Right? We're in the foxholes. You're with Jimmy on with Joe. Yeah, but anyway, there's some sound from yesterday. Um, Aaron Rodgers making news. I mean, I my immediate taken. That was like, Well, there's no way and how the Packers are trading them, And so is this just like this is just wrong Emotion after a tough loss. Oh, auras. Schefter said You're Aaron Rodgers. You could make life hell on the Packers. He could be like, you know, I'm not coming. Trade me. I'm not gonna play. Yeah, whatever. He certainly doesn't need the money. So I guess that that that almost you could sort of interpret all this by saying like, I guess Roger's looks at yesterday. I mean, I'm just guessing this is what's in his head that he looks at yesterday and says Okay, I finally had my chance to win a title game at home because of my coaches, bad decisions. Was unable to win that title. Maybe if I go someplace else, I can do it. See, But to me that doesn't That doesn't have Roger's taking enough accountability for himself because the floor had nothing to do with the fact that Roger's wouldn't touch the ball under his arm and just simply run into the end zone instead of forcing it across his body into double coverage for an incomplete pass, that's on Rogers. You're absolutely right. And there's also Brian Baldinger has a breakdown. A pretty savage breaking. I said Thanks for swinging by the way. That was a great tax. Now that was one of them. Orange Rogers. I mean, we talk about these times. Jimmy doesn't see the field because we've seen all those Jimmy doesn't see the field. This doesn't see the field. Rogers was missing guys all over the place. Had a shocking lack of vision on a couple of plays would really shocked. Yes, that would have changed everything. What did you by the way? How much more like severe. Does it sound too? When you got baldy breaking it down? He's like, not lucky. Missed him again. Look what happens here, like ball degrading you in a tough fashion is like it makes it all the more severe. They're human beings playing in a high pressure environment. They're going to make mistakes. And Rogers made mistakes yesterday. He did. I mean, as good as he was. He did not see he goes to specific plays where he had Lazard. Why, on the third down, play Crazy Open the second, downplay. Where he throws the back of the end zone. That was the worst one of them all the one where he forced it back to Adam's Lazard wide open. I mean, there's like it's like it's like he snuck out in the field is like a security guy. There's there's nobody. Nobody near him yards. Yeah, and then and then the one you pointed out the rot. The lack of the tuck and run was just I just don't know what he's thinking right there. I don't know. You know that those are the moments. Those are the moments and and to give Tom Brady all the credit in the world. His moment was right before the end of the first half. Yeah, but he was fine. I'm gonna find watch me. This is my moment. I'm gonna see here. Hand me the knife so I can put this up to your throat carp A Brady. Um, you know, I mean, he seized the moment that was that was arguably the biggest play of the game. If not in arguably the biggest play the game. I think it was. I think it was the biggest play the game. That's where Brady gets all the credit in the world, man. For being so ruthless gangster as you called it, Bo. He's a gangster. Yeah, Here's a little Rogers afterwards about the fourth down play like that. The disconnect between him and the floor to about not knowing about fourth doubts Rogers on down. Did you agree with the decision to kick it there on fourth down? Well, I didn't have a decision on that one. Yeah, it wasn't my decision. Understand the thinking about two minutes with all of our time outs, But.
Opinion: NFC Dominated by Old Guard
"A great quarterback matchup. In both e A F C and NFC championship game. It kind of goes in line with what we've seen so far this season. I think the NFC has been dominated by the old guard. I mean, old guard disrespectful, but Tom Brady's been around for y Seasons event. Drew Brees vet. Air Rogers fete. We're talking about guys who have been through it all. In the NFL guys who have seen it all done. It all competed at the absolute highest level. Each and every week each and every season for the last decade plus That's not what we had in the A F. C playoffs. Think back to the last round. The divisional round. The average age for the quarterback was 37 in the NFC. It was 24 the A. F. C. This is a really good blend A really good mix of then versus now. This is a really good mix between The old Guard who has the rings has the accolades and the new guard that's trying to acquire those things. How many Super Bowls will Patrick Mahomes go to? How many championships will Josh Allen? Get too in his career. We're trying to find out more homes have the chance to get to his second. Josh Allen has a chance to get to his first. I think it's a really interesting juxtaposition with where we are in both conferences because in the A F C It could send used to get younger and younger. If you look at The number one overall pick. It's in the A F. C. If you look at the number two overall pick, possibly getting Justin Fields, also in the A F. C. I mean, we're talking about Baker may feel impact trauma homes and Josh Alan and to Shawn Watson. Forever, Lord, possibly Justin Fields. I might even be forgetting somebody off the top of my head. But you understand the point. That's not what we have in the NFC, So I expected us to be at this point where it was gonna be that old guard. Versus the new guard. Think, regardless of whatever Super Bowl matchup we get. It's a fantastic story line. Think about it if it's the home's going up against Brady And you have the greatest quarterback of all time in his 10th and a guy who I think is as talented as any quarterback we've ever seen. And that's Patrick Holmes. If it's Josh Allen You've got a fan base, The starved for Super Bowl start for this kind of notoriety. They've got one of the young kids, one of the young guns and Josh Allen. He's played at an incredible level.
College football underclassmen who intend to enter 2021 NFL draft
"Monday was the deadline for college football underclassmen to declare their eligibility for the NFL draft this spring. As expected, Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields is turning pro. Some other key but guys, those staying in school like wide receiver Crystal lhave, a tight end Jeremy record and defensive anti Rick Smith. They're staying in Columbus for the 2021 college football
Duke Blue Devils fall out of AP men's basketball
"For the first time since the 2015 2016 season Gonzaga and Baylor still undefeated, followed by Villanova. I was in Texas in the top five. College football notes this afternoon or how state quarterback Justin Fields has declared for the NFL draft, and Tennessee football coach Jeremy Pruitt, who was fired for cause today, athletic director Phil Full mark expected to retire per reports. Well did the New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees
Ohio State QB Fields declares for NFL draft
"In college football and in professional football. As Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields announces he is skipping his final two seasons of eligibility and entering the NFL draft. ESPN smell Keiper Junior ranks in the number three overall prospect. Fields with 5373 passing yards and 63 touchdowns first is only nine interceptions in two seasons at Ohio State to go along with 867 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. The 40 Niners
Unstoppable Tide: Alabama routs Ohio St for national title
"Alabama finishing unbeaten season and claim college football's national championship beating Ohio state fifty two to twenty four in the win Crimson Tide quarterback mac Jones passed for four hundred sixty four yards and five touchdowns Jones at Heisman winner devante Smith twelve times for two hundred fifteen yards and three scores not J. Harris racked up one hundred fifty eight total yards and found the end zone three times Nick Sabin wins a record seventh title as it's the six crown for Alabama since two thousand nine Justin fields passed for one hundred ninety four yards but the Buckeyes finish their year at seven and one I'm Josh Rowntree
Whamma Bama: Tide roll to national championship
"12 and all. They have scored at least 30 points in 25 consecutive games. This is their fifth college football playoff title game in the short history of the C F P. They have one too. They have lost two and let's begin Trevor with your keys for Alabama as it regards to Justin Fields. First of all, Don't let Justin fields be Justin Fields. Fields is phenomenal throwing from the pocket, but he is at his most dangerous when he gets out of the pocket and is a threat to run because, unlike Mack Jones, Justin Fields would be a star running back a star tight end a star big receiver. He's got massive hips and thighs can run through tackles and in the open field, he could go 70 yards to the house. So the first thing they needed to do about fields is Don't let him be fields make him be Mack Jones and do it from the top. Okay, How about look big place? They're going to be a big party tonight. Everyone expects high scoring offense is going up and down as it relates to Alabama big plays and trying to stay away from them. That is a big deal because as good as Obama's past, defensive numbers are teams that could throw through, well, Ole Miss Florida And while state is one of the best downfield passing teams in all of college football against Clemson, they had touchdown passes of 56 45 yards, and they had a touchdown run of 32 yards. What Ohio. What Alabama needs to do is not allow the junk plays force Ohio State to run a lot of plays to get down his scoring position because as good as the Buckeyes chemistry was against Clemson in the Sugar Bowl, that chemistry is still suspect until proven otherwise. Because that was the first time they really played with that kind of rhythm. The more plays Bama's defense can force the Buckeye Office to run. More opportunities. They have to get out of sync and make a mistake. All
With Injury, Justin Fields Is Taking a Big Risk for Ohio State
"Tonight's national title. Game will come down to well. It's gonna come down to whether or not ohio state can limit the amount of big plays this alabama offense can create and we saw that throughout the course of the season but in particular in the semi final game bruce myeloma mater and the flip side. I think justin feels half the has to have a similar game so what he had in the semi final game which was his best game as a college quarterback so if he can so again blow for blow like i mentioned earlier in the nfl games but if he can do that. I this alabama offense. I think they stand a chance but the biggest question mark right now. Dan is how big an impact kobe. We'll have potentially on the delighted. How healthy justin fields is going to be with that rib injury that he's dealing with.
College football underclassmen who intend to enter 2021 NFL draft
"College football game coming up on Monday night, two championship game between Ohio State in Alabama. And they're going to be a whole bunch players in that game that will hear their name called any NFL draft. Later, the here in 2021 here to give you some football inside he comes to you. The NFL Today on DA is a draft analyst for pro football network dot com. Tony pulling good enough to give us a couple minutes of his time tonight. Tony. How was your New Year's? I hope? Well, it was good. As with the whole holidays. Thank you for having thank you for asking. And thanks for having me back. No, My pleasure. Thank you for coming on board mentioned the championship game to be played on Monday, either as per your latest mock or if you've been getting ready to write up a new one after the game's over and done with How many first round picks do you think we will have in action on Monday night? Yeah, I think there are seven solid first round picks. I think there's a potential for as many as 10 to go in the first round from this game Monday, so It's Alabama Heavy, but Ohio State is well represented the game. Well, there's one guy in particular. I do want to ask you about coming from the Ohio State side Nets their quarterback, Justin Fields, I was a huge fan all offseason. Cute. I was a big fan of his coming out of high school when he was right there with Trevor Laurence is debatable. The number one player in the country goes to Georgia can't break through. Decides he'd rather transfer than staying compete goes to Ohio State has an unbelievable year last year. Had a mediocre year this year. Now you could explain it with covert and shortened schedule and whatever else then at a pretty poor Big 10 championship game. Followed by the game of his career in the N C. A. A semifinals Have you at your noodle? My needle moved on what you think of fields as an NFL prospect by how this season is gone. No kind of parallels What you said. I mean, I was incredibly high on field coming into the season, not as high as trouble, Lawrence. A lot of people talk about Jack Wilson, the quarterback from BYU, but right now, Justin Fields Is my number two quarterback on the board, and I think that what all said and done. He's going to be the 2nd and 3rd player selected in the draft after Trevor large No, I think he I hope he's drafted number two because I'm a jet guy, and I think he deserves to be number two. You mentioned Wilson, who's moved up rapidly this year, again. Comparing seasons last year, Fields had no unbelievable year. Wilson wasn't even a guy on anybody's draft potential radar had a phenomenal season has one year potentially moved him a little too quick up the draft boards. In your opinion, it could be, but he plays the quarterback position. That's what often happens with quarterbacks. Now. You know, the thing with Wilson is He's a playmaker. He's smart. He's a great study. He sees the feel He has a new, incredible ability to process what's happening on the field. He when you compare him to fields Yes, that slight advantage over fields in that area. He doesn't have the arm of fields. He's not a guy who can drive. This deep passes with speed is Justin Fields can just appealed. You had superior physical skills. I think people look at Wilson and even though BYU really complain many tough opponents this year I think they look at the fact that every week it's big numbers. Whether he's you know, it's not a wide open offense. It's a situation where he's creating a lot of these plays. He's supposed to be a great interview, which I think is gonna turn a lot of people on and there are people in the league who I trust who tell me that he made that he exact Wilson may not be selected before Justin Fields. They feel two or three years down the road. He could be the better the two quarterbacks in the NFL fair enough on everything you said that would easily lend itself to my next question. Where was he last year. Did was there something that transformed him between his sophomore and junior seasons? Because his numbers last year forget about comparable, They pale in comparison? Well, yeah, he was injured part of last year, and I mean coming into the season. Scouts who great underclassmen gave him 1/5 round grade. So it was not like he was not entity in the scouting community. He was given 1/5 round great and his game has just taken off. He had injury issues last year, which I think led to when I was competing for the job. Now we're healthy and he's basically taken in the bull by the horns, as they say.
The College Football Champion Not in the Title Game
"How impressed for instance, were you With the way Ohio State showed up in the second semi final, especially given how they had looked throughout the season. Yeah, I was blown away. Jim. I just really was. I thought that I didn't think they could win, And I thought they may even get trucked a bit by Clemson just because I thought Clemson was playing in a much higher level and then Ohio State just stepped it up three levels, you know, and the way they X executed the way they performed Justin Fields, really One of the great performances I've seen from a quarterback, especially after nearly having his rib cage split in half. You know, just just courageous and brilliant. Um and Their defense played better trace sermon has been a monster. Lately. Their receivers are excellent. Their offensive line is excellent. S so they've got the ports and I think it's gonna be a real shootout in the final with Alabama at 40 My guest. I mean, amazing win for Ohio State an amazing performance. What about clumps? And what about the flipside? How bad of a loss was that for Clemson? It was bad. It was especially bad for Davos, Sweeney. You know who ran his mouth a bit. And you know, if you if you hand out that bulletin board material of putting Ohio State 11th and no that's gonna be public on then you you go out and get run over. That's a bad look and Davros had a great great run and it's it's going to continue. They've got really good players. You lose Trevor Moritz on even though the rest the next quarterback is really talented. He may not be Trevor Laurence. Yeah, You know, it's just a situation where They had a great as I said, a great run. But you may have missed a little bit of a window here with Trevor. They may still be a top. They should probably still be a top five program. They may eventually be a national champion again. Like you wonder if the last two years if they may be Mr Chance to add a second or third national title under travel on it before asking about the final really quickly when you look

"And open and say what I really believe I'm not a hater of Justin fields at all off hater is somebody who Roots against somebody so someone who hates on strong opinion Sports to someone who wants to see me fail because they hate me and they don't care what I say, they're not listening to any kind of conversation. There's no suction dark. There's nothing they just want to see me fail. I don't want to see Justin Fields fail. I'm not a hater. I never have been I have offered criticism of him before I said hey and you can watch the Northwestern game. He did some bad stuff. So I stand by my Chrome with him, but the end of the day, I'm not a hater and I in fact, I'm actually quite a big fan and I want to try to learn from the past where we saw Justin Herbert a guy who had a lot of problems in college, but also very clear a lot of talent go from college the NFL and Bam he succeeded and we've seen a trend now with three quarterbacks recently Mahomes Josh Allen and Herbert where they struggled in college had some things that make you head off on film, but at the end of the third talented and work hard they're going to make it in the NFL. That is why I buy an adjuster Fields. He's going to be an awesome NFL quarterback and I would draft him in a heartbeat. All right, guys, I was worried. That was long. I hope you enjoyed it. I'm going to take a short break when I return. We'll talk about Alabama. We'll talk about Notre Dame and we'll talk about Georgia and Cincinnati up ahead. My name is Akshay onlar..
All eyes are on Justin Fields. Can he handle the pressure?
"Teams around the nation that I have an inside track on. I don't have one with Ohio state but I believe with an outsider's perspective looking in. I I would imagine it had to be a year of growth off the field for Justin Fields because he's at all this Heisman hype he's gotten all this attention. He's been everywhere in the media and then against Northwestern he had some back in Northwestern the Indiana game. He held down the hall a bit too long. He tried to make big plays he tried to I think Force plays downfield rather than throw the ball the way And I thought that those were those mistakes he made against Northwestern Indiana. We're kind of a really kind of a the all the pressure from the media manifesting and a guy trying to deliver on our expectations that have been laid upon

"He's talented. He works hard if I'm a coach Mike and a heartbeat. I'll take them by now. Let's do compare Justin fields to Trevor Lawrence real quick. There's a little bit of interesting stuff. I can add Justin Fields. Is he moves better than Trevor Lawrence Clemson quarterback. He's more mobile. And if you're an NFL team with a bad offensive line, Justin Fields is more likely to succeed with you than Trevor Lawrence because Justin Fields can run and extend plays the same way with seem to probably a greater extent than Justin will be on Watson or Jalen hurts Russell Wilson, like if you can move that's it a key good part of your game and we saw in the college football playoff game Trevor heavy pressure with about offensive line struggling losing one-on-one matchups. He's not very effective. So Justin's Mobility I think is a huge asset that if I'm a team of the bad offensive line I go. Hm Trevor or just and well if we can't protect him very well we might lean on the fact you can move around a little bit month. That's worth noting now Zach Wilson, the former BYU quarterback is ridiculously talented. I really if I were an NFL coach, I guess really the thing about talking to Zach Wilson and Justin Fields having conversations with them face-to-face getting to know them if I was going to make a decision between the two would have to come down to like, who do I work with better who is more receptive to coaching? Who is like, who do I've I've done better in the meeting room cuz they're very similar in Talent. However, the difference would need Justin Fields is Zach Wilson is that Justin runs with more power but they both do impressive stuff. And if you look at their filming there are multiple moments. I watch that goes and I go oh my goodness. That's a crazy play and I watch Justin fields and go. Wow, that's ridiculous. They both make me feel that way around like that's just something that's a crazy play. That's really impressive wage. And I between Zach Wilson and Justin Fields, it's it's pretty neck-and-neck. I the difference for me would have to be talking to them in person and getting on a chalkboard and seeing like who who I work with better. How do I feel more comfortable working with in the future? But I do believe that there are at least at minimum three really good quarterbacks in the upcoming 2021 NFL draft. I Got You Know Jack Wilson Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields And there are going to be teams that I believe are going to pass on Justin Fields And if you if you put on Justin fields for another business, they the Bengals draft Pinette Sewell the Fantastic left tackle out of Oregon. Hey, that's fine. Go get nasal..

"But man, is he the kind of guy who his players love and they fight hard for him and I just I think you can hate Dabo Swinney no problem, but I think it's a little bit silly when people say it's like an awful person or this or that I'm off like he's loud. He's braggadocious. But at the end of the day, I will never forget what he said about DeShaun Watson said DeShaun Watson is like Michael Jordan do not pass on him and he was he has. Complete confidence in its players. I just loved that about him now, Ohio State dominated Clemson Clemson quarterback, Trevor Lawrence had a ton of pressure in his face all day all game long. It just really thought we learned. I don't know what we I know for me like there's a lot of little things we can talk about and nitpick about the game and this and that and I just like, I don't know I think a lot of people anybody who hates Lawrence. I don't really understand a lot of people like we're so happy to see him fail and see him lose and I I don't really understand the the desire to root against anybody like let me Define. What a hater is back. There is somebody who hates on somebody and really isn't open to them changing their mind and you can let me be clear if you hate on somebody you just want to see them fail, you're rooting for them to fail. That's what a hater is. Now offering criticism is one thing and you can say like you Trevor Lawrence said it done this or that but I hate or with somebody who isn't open to having a conversation. All they want is to tear somebody down and see them fail and I don't really understand haters in anything. I mean really maybe the closest I've ever come to being a hater is I did a really intense segment about Mitchell trubisky quarterback. Other than that, I don't really I try not to be that guy try to be like, hey, I'll say what I believe and I'm willing for people to change my mind and I don't really understand people who are eager to watch Trevor Lawrence fail and attack him so, you know tuck so much joy and watching the guy lose to Ohio State now again, there's a lot of stuff we go talk about I really all I want to talk about is Ohio State's quarterback. Justin Fields, Ohio State's quarterback. Justin Fields was outstanding against Clemson and their college football playoff game was phenomenal fun to watch. He was twenty-two 428 passing had 385 yards passing touchdowns one interception. He also ran eight times for 42 yards and stats are great like stats are impressive and I thought he had some really great balls down field and threw the ball vertically very very well now. So worth giving some context all this happened and in the first half by the way, he got nailed in the ribs on a third-down run for a first down and literally he only missed once off the entire game. He missed one snap and then came back in the game. And so pretty much all like half of his stats were put up with a significant injury to his ribs and the guy was clearly in a lot of pain and I.
Why ESPN is killing it with college football right now
"New Year's Day in the college football playoff semifinals, Ohio State beat Clemson, 49 to 28. And first of all, it's a fun game to watch. I really want to give a shout-out tspn something. I very rarely do the presentation of the game. Awesome, the whole game felt epic and I mean that the hype package before the game. I was so excited and then I really was glued to my TV. The first half of this game was amazing the second half drug on a little bit as a Ohio State pretty girl was going to win but shout out to ESPN and they did a great job and it's kind of kind of shocking actually like this game was so well done by ESPN and it's like it's such a superior product to Monday Night Football, which is all done by ESPN. It's like like why can't Monday Night Football be as good as this was I don't know maybe maybe a playoff atmosphere helps. I have no idea. But every time I watch a really hyped up big intended college football game on ESPN. It's really well
Ohio State shocks Clemson & Bama dominates Notre Dame
"And we're taping this about an hour after a pretty stunning performance by ohio state crushing clemson in the semi final game and so we both had two games. There were both blowouts but the second one didn't go the way anybody thought rights to yeah to blow outs. One felt like the game. You expected alabama notre dame. The other one. I never in a million years that i think it would play out that way. And maybe that's my bad. Maybe i should have more faith in the buckeyes though having only seen them six times having only seen them play A couple big games. Nobody could have seen that coming. Nobody could have six touchdowns from dustin fields in snaps dominant performance. I think the thing i most underestimated was just how much fuel they were playing with from the For at the very least from last year's game that they've been holding onto this for twelve months Davos ballot played a role. Who's to say but clearly it was one of those situations where a team just comes out on fire. I hesitate to go down this road With you. But i'm gonna go there. Look you know what justin field pretty fantastic for the first three games of the season against lesser competition. And then he had that three. Pick game against indiana. Who's a good team was probably the best team. They played all season and then they played in the big ten championship game. They played a really good defense at northwestern and he looked like he lost confidence. I i don't know that but he just there was no chris. Alaba ver- and trae sermon ran the ball. Like he'd never run before and looked great. And but the passing game was left a lot to be desired to the point where A lotta people were saying. Hey wilson's now the the number two pick quarterback guy in the draft behind trevor lawrence. Now you fast forward. After this. And i'm talking to different people in football circles. Who our coaches. And they're like i would just discussions going to be really interesting now. What the jaguars may have between trevor lawrence and just field so just like justin feels was phenomenal tonight especially after taking a big shot. In the ribs from james galaxy that ended up being targeting and scou- scott ejected from another playoff game. Just like he did last year against shoe. But i mean these were some deep shots that he was throwing down field. I just thought well how they look terrific on really on both sides of the ball. I think they looked better than they had on. Defense a- this year given the competition but the one eighty on justin field from where he was where people felt about him after the northwestern game. I mean am. I understanding that am i stating that. I mean you. See the same thing i'm seeing. A lot of people were panicking about him. After the northwestern game in will i would say with the three interceptions against indiana and then the way he looked against northwestern. But how much do you think is with a higher state for you know. Not only they not played as many games so they haven't had As much time to figure their team out like trae sermon wasn't even factor until the last game and now he's he's had two huge games back to back. But then got chris alavi back. He missed the title game I mean they've had dating back and keep track of which week it was when they had their covert outbreak but and they had to cancel a game. But i mean they've had guys obviously going in and out of The twenty one day quarantine. That is now what seventeen days Like the day was out at one point like they may just be a case of. They finally got their whole team together at once. And they actually didn't those there were without three starters You know harry. Miller is one of their better offense of lineman. There were without a couple of defensive. Lineman they were allowed master teague forgotten man. Because that's not fair to him. But the way trae sermon trish. All of a sudden turned into the same same version that we saw ezekiel. Oh here by. The ezekiel elliott. Who was not even like in all conference honorable mention or second team all conference to the big ten year. They win the title because he just went wild in the three postseason games. And and now we're seeing trae sermon. Do that transform. It looks like they got. Adrian peterson to transfer from oklahoma compared to like elevated his game to ridiculous proportions. The i will say this. I feel like of the two of us. And i'm not trying to pop on the back here I feel like of the two of us. I was a little more of a believer in having a little more believer in justin feels. Maybe than you were at least as a passer. And i think some of that honestly stems from hearing all the elite eleven guys. And seeing him there where they raved about him in ways to a degree that they said. He's probably the most talented player they've had come through their Or quarterback and he looked like that god and i mean. This was the had some great performances. Obviously the numbers. You put up last year and at times this year. But i mean on that stage. The one thing that jumped out at me and you are both at the national title game in that stadium. A year ago was when it was head to head because trevor lawrence look fantastic when he shredded alabama as a true freshman. And that's when the hype. I would say that's when all of a sudden everybody fell in love with trevor lawrence and he is gonna be the first pick in the draft and a couple of years from now and he's done nothing to undermine that he's been terrific off the field. He's been terrific on the field. But joe burrow really was like outshine them last year in that head to head and certainly You know with justin feels it today just kind of was it was an amazing
Ohio State handles Clemson in college football semifinal
"Playoff has just been It's Hell of a second game, especially and so joining us to talk about all of it from college football news dot com Pete Few tack, Pete. Welcome to the show going Well, how's it God for you? I mean, you sit here. You're watching this full day of college football games and Ohio State is just obliterating Clemson. They're taking a victory. Kneel as we speak. Like what happened today, Pete? I think has been an awful bull season. It just every games. Bad. Just looked this morning was fun. It's after this one. Actually, the Georgia uh, Cincinnati game that was entertaining and good. But everything else has been a blowout or ugly. It's just been a bad, miserable bowl season. But okay, we just got something quirky here where it's crazy to think that You know, it's Ohio State. It's you know, one of the biggest bad boys on the block and less Yet it feels kind of fresh that it's Ohio State. Alabama and not Clemson, Alabama. It's you know, send it kind of feels like okay, that's up the difference. So that seems like it could be a little bit more fun. I think then Okay comes tell them again. Throw it on the pile. Well, yes. So for the final score of this game now is it just officially went final. It's 49 to 28. I mean, Justin Fields blew up to that. Like, how did Clemson get beat up this badly, though? Uh, I always want to see hindsight. So 2020 and all the hard part about this college football season is you're really didn't have anything else to compare it to. Because part of the problem is nobody played nonconference individuals. Except for maybe, you know, maybe a Sunbelt person Big 12 game here later outside. Game there, but there really weren't any other comp games. So all you're seeing is a T C teams playing other 80 fie team that can be claimed at the Big 10, so it's sort of hard to kind of figure out who's really just that awesome. And look, you know they that was just a phenomenal performance file. How state laser focused, And it was the big question mark coming into this game because we had seen Ohio State this year. They were missing 22 guys. The Big 10 Championship, didn't have most of their offensive lines for the last couple of games of the regular season. This was not the normal Ohio State team that was supposed to be, And so the question Mark is okay. You know what's gonna happen when that gets all together, and it gets good. Be that team and obviously turned up pretty good. Well, yes. Oh, they dominate Clemson. Now they're going to the national championship game. And for this point with Ohio State now we can put all of the they should have been the conference championship and changing the rules like we could put all that stuff to bed now, right? Well, yeah. I mean, they still probably shouldn't have done all that. But okay, it's look, However, they got here they got here. You know all that's the other stuff, you know, merely just getting the season going. The entire reason they played the big 10 season really was kind of money, but also that you know how state wanted toe get in this thing again. You know, kind of get the redemption for last year's disaster. When they lost the Clemson. They felt like they had everything there. They should have won the game. They had a great team. Now. It keeps getting lost in the narrative. They bumped. They probably loose ls you but that's not really how this whole thing worked out. And now they just came up with a new epic performance. That was an ultra motivated, great team, and it all just worked well for him, And so for Justin feels like there's a lot of speculation about fields and how good he was. The game against Northwestern comes out today. He's got 385 yards and six touchdowns, so for him to have this kind of performance. What does that do for the draft stock? Help, you know, obviously, obviously helps Whatever. Lawrence is still the one of one's. That's that doesn't change. He's used the Jacksonville Jaguar number one overall pick. No question about it. I still think that Zack Wilson's gonna end up being the second quarterback. He's He's just got kind of all the basics. Terry. The mechanics are flawless. Uh, if it's not just infield, Justin Field was probably second. After all this And at worst third. Certainly he's not going to drop very far. If he does. I mean, at the end of the day, all of these guys are gonna be top 10 draft picks anyway, It doesn't really matter where they go on. They're all gonna be multi million years. But there is more of a fight now because it was the thought was that deck Wilson was going to be The number two or three pick on now, Obviously, with field doing this, all right, like kind of a lot of, you know, there's good teams out there. They're gonna say that I want that guy's our NFL quarterback going forward. Well, yeah, he's gonna
BYU QB Wilson, likely first-rounder, entering draft
"Plays Clemson at 8 P.m. Eastern and the Sugar Bowl for a spot in the college football National championship game. All eyes air entering this game or on Justin Fields. Fields in the Big 10 championship game struggled immensely. With his final stat line, and the wind against Northwestern was was 12 passes completed out of 27 attempts. Only 114 passing yards, no passing touchdowns, two interceptions, and the Ohio State signal caller only averaged 2.9 yards per carry running the football. Earlier today. BYU quarterback exact Wilson Declare for the NFL draft, and the conversation currently is still Will be Wilson or fields as the second quarterback taken in the NFL draft after trouble Lawrence Zack with that conversation surrounding fields on size or offsides fields. We'll send a statement to his draft critics tonight and show us that he should be the second quarterback off the board. Come in the NFL draft. Besides, I'm gonna go off sides here and I'm not saying Justin Fields can play a good game time. He can't be worse than what he did up against Northwestern. Unless if he balls out and gets the victory, that's the only way that you show a definitive argument why he should be the second quarterback. There's a lot of debate. There's gonna be a lot of conversation leading up to that right now. It seems that Momenta miss shifting to Zach Wilson, and now it's up to Justin Field to try to get that back. Ultimately. Even if fields plays well. And there he could play. We'll go blow to blow up against Trevor Laurence and the Clemson football team. I just don't think Clinton's went and I said this all year. I know it's not going out on a limb. I just feel as if we're on a collision course to see Alabama and Clemson once again. So unless it fields gets that win, I don't think there is enough of a statement that is going to get sent tonight to basically guarantee that he'll be the second quarterback off the board and then fields coming in at number three. Or maybe even for dependent on what you think of trade Lance and Mack Jones. So I do go outside just in fields will not send the statement tonight In my opinion. And I still think there will be draft critics. They're questioning him on if he should be the second quarterback off the board, all
Clemson and Ohio State to face off in the Sugar Bowl
"Day means college football for sports fans. The main event, the Sugar Bowl for the second straight year. Clemson and Ohio Speed meeting college football semi finals this year. It's in the Sugar Bowl. The Tigers came from behind to win last time, so the Buckeyes have revenge on their minds. The game's starting quarterback Clinton's Trevor Laurence, and Ohio State's Justin Fields have been linked since they were the top two recruits coming out of Georgia high schools. Separated by less than 30 miles in 2018. The two have become friends. And while they'll meet for the final time is college players tonight, they're both expected to be high First round picks and next year's NFL draft. I'm
New York Jets will part ways with coach Adam Gase after final game of 2020 season, report says
"Jets. Of course, they're hoping for a better and brighter 2021, Frankly. It would not take much. For them to have a better new year, though, by winning their last two games. They have done their darndest to ensure that maybe 2021 won't be that much better than 2020 missing on in trouble, Lawrence, But Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, Still a lot of guys on the table and We're now 100% certain Adam Gates will not be on the sideline of the New York Jets. I think that's something most of us could have guessed for a long time, but we have the report from Craig Carton, our friend of the station here on the fan. The Jets have already talked about giving gays the heave ho After their game against the Patriots on Sunday Case. Of course, on Wednesday, said Oh, I never heard anything about that. But what do you expect A lame duck to say Adam Gaze is a lame duck,

"Or am i better off with justin feels and you have to compare those sorts of decisions and it really does start this weekend and it's gonna be really exciting offseason and ultimately i think the jets control what happens depending if they go fields or if they keep sam darnold for their future. Yeah and i think about justin fields a lot of different options as to where he could go. I wonder what your evaluation of fields as enters. This last game is biggest game of the season and think about it in this context could could. We actually see. The dolphins move on from two in favor of fields. I'm not saying they will. But that's part of the conversation we've heard this year. Yeah absolutely ryan. They'll certainly they have a responsibility of the franchise so they'll look at all options to improve their team. We go back year ago chase. Young's been a great player for washington. But you could certainly make. The argument would have been better off with justin. Herbert overtake sean. Given how much talent. They have their defensive line. So each teams go look at. Hey who gives us the best chance to win. And if justin fields plays great over the next couple of weeks he'll be in the conversation both in miami and at the jets mark. I want to bring you in. There has been this conversation about ohio state. Quarterbacks and i think in some ways that's reflected negative it's reflected for some negativity unjust and field. How do you think that. Let's call it a stigma for some will impact just in fields in the draft. I think you have to factor it in and it's important to realize but at the same time you've got to evaluate him on an individual basis. I mean the guys thrown eight interceptions in his entire career. Yes he's thrown a couple of bad ones recently. Trevor.

"Off in the first half. Obviously dalvin cook plays great down the stretch and he also played pretty well against the indianapolis colts when you think about patrick mahomes and miami. You'll patrick mahomes against new orleans saints. Even though he did all he had to to win the game. And obviously against the atlanta falcons the two interceptions or with the interception. You look at it. You say okay. Aaron rodgers playing better ball. Right we are is in. Every rogers favors the touchdown. Interception ratio is an era rogers favourite also the narrative. And the story is right. You're talking about a guy. They draft replacement in the first round. All we talked about all off season is how you didn't have weapons in. This is what you do with that team. Every rogers has earned this award and to win on the back. Half of your career in this way is very impressive. Matters than the story matters just like the movie that he ryan smith favorite movie. You guys you guys would kill us in the media for saying that. The guy should win the mvp award based on a narrative. And i'm sitting here listening to you guys talk about points. Who cares what the narrative is. Who would you rather have you can take. You have a draft guy who goes. Would you pick always taken out of always taking. I take lebron. Who would you pick. But he grooms. I'm valuable ally care about rogers help. That's false he's got a wide receivers get more cities or anybody else's i don't i don't buy it. I think narrative stuff is overblown. Mvp and should be and he won't be but but he should be. It's personal for you. Not the spirit. In which culture wednesday was built daniel. That's not it and we gotta move on. Gotta move onto this guys. We're looking at your new year's resolutions for some teams gotta move to this grows. What's who's your resolution for in twenty twenty one cincinnati bengals before you do literally anything this offseason. Ask yourself the question. will this help us. Protect joe burrow. If the answer is no don't do it. Look at what. The cleveland browns did last year. They signed a right tackle and free agency. They drafted a left tackle in the first round of the draft. That effect it's had on baker. Mayfield pretty significant. Joe burrow must be protected at all costs if you are cincinnati bengals. That is your twenty twenty one priority. Nick how about you who's resolution for. Yeah i i. I love that. Mike brown waking up in the morning coffee. Is this going to protect. Joe burrow not not resolution is is not nearly as much wind. But we've been piling on. Dwayne haskins for the past couple of days and he deserves a lot of criticism that he's gone. But i do think some of it is a bit overblown to the point where we're asking. Is he going to get another chains. Like that's not something that i think is even fair to be considering at this time. Maybe he's not as good as we thought he was in. Maybe that one year in college was a bit of a fluke or product of the system. Maybe he's banned but he's a first round pick And those guys always get second chances and less. There's some sort of extenuating circumstances with the law or would some addiction or something like that. No he doesn't have any of those prompt he's immature. Rc who's resolution on for a thirty seconds on the clock. You go.
Clippers rebound from 51-point debacle to top Wolves 124-101

Jets defense did the unthinkable in shutting down Browns
"The jets. Yesterday one they knocked off the browns. So cleveland reeling a little bit. Which means next april in cleveland. Mike the jets are locked into the number two overall pick. The draft will be held there beginning. On april thirtieth. So what should they do at pick number two knowing what obviously jacksonville is going to do it number one. Well not just saying this because we have an office alive hosting the show today. I actually answered this question. Fourteen years ago which was in my first year as general manager of the jets and six. I drafted to offense offensive in the first round to birkenshaw ferguson. And nick mangold. I think it starts up front. It's really hard to evaluate. Sam darnold s trevor alluded to earlier in the show. Because it's just been between scheme changes. Coaching changes below average offensive line. It's hard to evaluate him. So i would take swell. I would put him at right tackle. I would keep back a very promising first round pick and i would start with their because if you could fortify your offensive line at least that gives you a foundation to build on and see what you have with sam darnold. I've been a little disappointed with justin fields last couple of weeks. He's strong against indiana struggle northwestern. He's very intriguing. Prospect to me but i just don't know if he's incrementally that much better than sam darnold that's why would draft the tackle from oregon and then build from there.

"That again I guess my point here is that Justin Fields can go to the NFL as soon as possible. He probably should and they probably will and it will be fine, but it might be better for his craft long-term if he stayed in college and make sure it doesn't have a game like this where he's really perfected everything. You never can have a perfect game and Justin fields did well Kind of not really there was never a moment where I'm like, oh, yeah, Justin Fields learn from his mistake and bounced back. It was just a with some good some bad and against Indiana Justin field is 18 or 34 300 yards passing two touchdowns, but three interceptions just throughout the entire game. He kept making mistake after mistake, and there was never a turning point where things got better. And so the problems really extended Beyond Justin Fields interceptions. He had let's go through with his two interceptions. First number one was a scene bald on the left side down the left side kind of left my life where the defense rain cover three. So there's two guys vertical Jeep on the outside and one guy deep in the middle of deep middle safety and Justin tried to move that safety to the right and then throw back to the left, but the ball was late. He left a too far inside down the seam which is like the hash mark basically and Justin the ball was intercepted didn't do the good enough job moving the safety. He was late. Foul ball was too far inside bam interception. Not a good way to start the game. Now with other two interceptions were both on broken plays where he was getting sacked pressure was closing in and he forced to covers one. Literally. He was literally falling backwards and just kind of threw the ball up in the air in the middle of the field. Not a good decision a really dangerous throw and it cost him. I mean instead of throwing the ball away or just eating it off. Misaki forced to throw into coverage and Bam got two interceptions that exact way. We also had a play where he passed up a wide open spot route on the left side. He's looking left in a spot remote flashes wide open and instead he forced to throw to a corner ball and complete it's like just to take the easy throat and there was no wind or snow. There was no rain. Justin was just not executing at a high level. He was not showing any patients. He wasn't doing what he's done all year. I don't know if it was the moment. I don't know what happened. But Justin was just not his normal self. I also saw another alarming problem where we've seen hints of this all year, but it really showed up big against Indiana where Justin wasn't beating blitzes with this arm. So Blitz mobile. No, it's where the defense brings extra Defenders after the quarterback. It says we're not bringing six or seven people after you to try to take you down and get a sack and quarterbacks need to anticipate blitzes off and throw the soft spots if they're bringing six people after the quarterback. There's fewer people in coverage. There's a soft spot in the defense find a weakness throw the ball out there. If it's man covers wheel of that beat the blitz beat them with a band beater make a great throw or if it's a Zone Blitz find the weakness in the zone coverage..

"No, I'm not trying to attend, but I just don't see anything in his game that screams out. This is not going to translate what the NFL or he's just not a good player, and I just feel personally we've anointed Shover Lawrence two years ago is the number one overall pick right? He went to nationalize the fresher, incredible and then since then, it's all 2021. That's the year that you got to get that guy. So for two years, I've been hyping him up. As like we restrict ourselves from allowing us to see the other great players like that have come about And just because Justin feels in play freshmen. I mean, he's not good, So that's my point. I will go through the top 10 right now. And let's say if this team ends up on the two line Would they take Justin Fields Vikings that they somehow end up on the two line there? Two and five. You would imagine they would take Justin Fields. I know they have the Kirk cousins situation. But you know, you haven't for two more years. You take Justin Fields, the Patriots. If they they fall to the two line at two and five. Shit probably won't You would think they would take Jackson Fisher. You would think so. Chargers at two and five. Herbert has already shown me enough. You're not thinking about it. You're adjusting other needs on that team That could try to help you not choke a game each and every week Washington if they get to the two line They're taking Justin Fields Falcons. Here's an interesting one, A two and six I would say it feels is available. It depends with that new regime is gonna want to do it. They're gonna want to build with Matt Ryan or Julio Jones. Me personally. I would take fields sit him for a year. Let Matt Ryan play one more year out or maybe a bench in mid season. Or you could look to trade him and get something back because if I am a team that is a quarterback away from winning the Super Bowl, I still think that Ryan has Ah lot left in the tank. Dallas right now, in the top 10, their two and six I don't think they should take Justin Fields. You re signed Dak Prescott and you draft the best defensive player available. How about this one? Houston's pick goes to Miami. I think it's too early to question if they should move on from two a tongue of Milo. I think they would address another need, and I believe into a Jaguar's. If they fall on the two line, they'll be players for Justin Fields, And then here's the interesting when the Giants I think that the Giants get the number two overall pick. They would take Justin Fields because you would assume that Dave Gettleman would not be making that decision. He would be fired and if the Giants are on the two line They probably indicates 2 May that the Daniel Jones turnover issues have not gone away. Each and every game, but one game he has turned over the football. I don't think that's the guy that you sit there and go is Justin feels supposed to be this great that you let Daniel Jones get another year or two and then fields goes on elsewhere and becomes a stud. And then the Jets. Obviously I see you go if you don't If you don't get Trevor with the Jets take Justin Fields. It seems like that is a time for a change in New York, so I think they would and they would trade Sam back, and I think Sam would be a hot commodity on the trade circuit. All right. We'll break it when we come on back. I'm curious. I just read a mock draft. How many quarterbacks are going in the first round? Right now? I think some names will surprise you. When we get past Lawrence when we get past just in fields and also on the other side, should ob bears. Make a little change.

"I mean every the moment that you think. Kansas city they lose to the raiders. And then comes out there. He throws for five touchdowns four hundred plus yards in the air. You basically what he wanted to do. Against the new york jets. And it's i mean they are the the cream of the crop. I mean you can't say anything about see defenses plan pretty good. They got all the toys and weapons. They've inserted levy on bail into the equation. Now so there's a two headed monster in the backfield. I'm looking forward to seeing them kind of thing. You'd move forward and get to the playoffs because i want to see what they look like. Come playoff time to see them in their second super bowl and has many years after waiting fifty years between super bowl. Four fifty four. That's how you make it efficient so you had the steelers at number two but is it too early to talk about something. He doesn't wanna talk about but we will sixteen to know talk. Remember the dolphins the only team the seventy two dolphins to go perfect the hallway back then they were playing a fourteen game regular season. The pats did go perfect in the regular season in the brady air before being tripped up by the giants j. Wanted to get into something before we go perfection possibility. I did just because. I wanted to understand the reasoning a little bit. I know that their undefeated. But it's interesting when i hear keys brain and how it works because his reasoning for steelers where they found a way to win ugly game wasn't pretty. It was ugly but then tampa bay. They win ugly and they get dropped because they went ugly. So i'm trying. I'm trying to figure that out. Tampa bay's ugly win. They almost lost right. Almost lost baltimore is eighteen times better than giants eighteen times. Do the math. it's not even close understood. So what i look at the opponent I look at the opponent. And i look at how the giants played the buccaneers. So tough tampa should have lost the game but doesn't was no. They should've lost that game to a team that has won victory on the year fighting to stay alive for top draft pick. That's what they were doing. I mean but can't you say every team has those type of games. I mean we're in battles with the texans bronco. Texas abetted in the giants. The texas are better than a giant in win. The steelers needed to pull away from the giants. They earlier though are they. I don't know about texas away in a junket all right. I don't know about that just because you say it. I don't know about that so you. You won't danny shawn watson i'm saying is this. Is this up but just a quarterback. So but i'm just saying you want that you want what so you're telling me so i mean both teams. The texans won one game. The giants initially better than the giants. You can just say that. Commissioner i could say it with conviction i promise you. They play the giants straight up pop giants. Okay let me say this with conviction. Those just waking up didn't see the end of the game last night it was quite a doozy. The giants score a touchdown going in for a game tying two point conversion and daniel jones throws to the end zone looking for dion lewis. Antoine winfield junior. Got in there. The initially threw a flag on a two point. Conversion to taya game late in the fourth quarter. Eventually the flag was picked up. And the buck survive twenty-five twenty-three they are now six and two so. Let's just go win. Loss win-loss win-loss steeler schedule the rest of the way were the answers. Loan unbeaten all right. Let's start this is an easy one. Guys will just spitballing back and forth this sunday next up at dallas win. The nucci win win. Okay then now. this is intriguing. Because this guy's a little better than nucci they will host the bengals win man stop. Pingo angled beat them. I think joe burrow the way he play last game. It could be interesting if he gets. He still have pittsburgh favored. It's not man. Then they'll go to jacksonville the mustache. It's not a win so now we're tend to know outta ravens. That's the game that's the one they'll host baltimore thanksgiving night in front of the entire country. It could be interesting. But i still think that pittsburgh. It's the same thing what what. What are they going to do to make a difference for lamar jackson in the passing. What are they going to do or they're going to go out and acquire an alpha dog at wide receiver. They're going to give me a six three two hundred and ten pounds sub for four guy that they're gonna find somewhere. They got eight and a half hours to do with the deadline for dude. I need one of them. Do mike tomlin the steelers. They don't fear the ravens as he said. They don't feel the ravens so i look forward to that game. Okay so now. We're at eleven and then they'll compete them as the colts. Colt sorta ravens. Those are the two maybe bills. We'll get to the call. Here's the here's the crazy thing about. It is the only team that can beat them in. Our is maybe like the colts. And maybe the bills of maybe the ravens. But there's always this team that you never think about then all of a sudden you look up me go whole damn they down by how many you know so you just gotta be careful. That's why i'm not always a sixteen o sixteen o as you start to get into week. Thirteen twelve and it starts to come up. Even more precious starts to to come on the stress level of going sixteen in. Oh that's a lot. I mean you had this conversation about the kansas city chiefs. I told him not going sixteen. O pop by the raiders that they did. Let's run through it real quick thirteen as you mentioned that twelve thirteen. Fourteen fifteen sixteen seventeen washington football team. Obviously when it should be a wimp but you just never know that'd be an interesting game. Cow may come out and just torture them. And then it'll be at buffalo. That's the one you kind of had a little trepidation about a minute and you go okay. Buffalo wh- what what. What's the environment.

"Say a generational type quarterback so you know. I didn't hear those things. Said about sam darnold and here little thing said about daniel jones. So that's the case. And we know how a lot of scouts and guys talk to people at this network about their internal perceptions of people. You don't think that's going to influence them to some degree. Sam sam darnold was taking his third pick overall. Last can count. That's not too far from number one overall. I'm with you so here. Anybody calls sam darnold generational week it week. Call anybody generational if we choose to do so. Wicked you words. This are true though. They do do it a lot and so i don't get caught up in what others say about him being the talented. I think he's a hell of a talent. There's no question about it. He's going to have a great career. The national football league but as far as the jets go in as far as the giants go. I believe that they got their quarterbacks in place archie. Manning was on our show a week ago or two manning. Peyton eli is dead. I think he knows about quarterbacks and grandson arch. who's doing well in high school. I think he knows a little bit about quarterbacks the man said they got their quarterback. I just you know. And i didn't talk to him on the sidebar. Say you make sure you tell them that we on the same page. So if he's seeing that in he doesn't have any weapons around him. I don't understand how others aren't seeing. Well you're my thing. Is they have their quarterback until out there anymore. They maybe. they don't have their quarterback that's the day it's the same with different conversation. Same with adam gates and joe douglas. I mean the same kind of scenario depending upon which does douglas didn't draft Sam darnold. I know i said well. It's the split. The difference the other side of the coin is you're right. Cattleman is tied to daniel jones. More than he is to any other player. He's had two stints with the giants but at the same token the arizona cardinals in general manager. Steve time cut. Bait with josh rosen. A year after drafting him kind kept his job and then they drafted cuyler murray. So you can have the quick hook. When need this keyshawn. Jay will zubin. You live from the seaport district at pier. Seventeen brought to you by chase. Greg as jane mentioned is greg mcelroy will get. His opinion is a national championship. Winning quarterback himself on lawrence anfield coming up. But let me correct you. He was the tenth pig and not the third. Pick that rose incorrect different. If you want to split the difference. Danny dimes right in the middle at six. So it's just a matter of semantics in that regard keys real rankings and can be league's. Lone unbeaten team finally make it to the top of keys meal chants. And there's a chance they could go undefeated. We'll talk about that. you love. it's possible. I'm not saying they're going sixteen to no but if you take a look at their schedule right now at seven no they might not lose to the rest of the way what they are able to do. Is they're able to score early. They're able to consistently move the chains and their fences playing really well..

"Timing accuracy ball location. The word is command he's in command of the ball than I was last year. I actually think that. If this continues if week one happens the rest of the year all year. I just feel to be a better option. As the number one overall pick than trevor. Lawrence and People have decided already Trevor Lawrence is the Guy I. Get it. But Justin feels an ability physically run. That is far greater than Trevor Lawrence it just a fact, and if he's making throws like he did against Nebraska. NFL throws with high level arm talent, and Great Anticipation Oh. Yeah. By the way he runs like a running back. I I think Justin fields. Might be the preferred number. One overall pick if coaches were choosing. So keep on that Justin fields. I to his credit looked phenomenal week one. He's done a lot of work. He looks really good throwing the football. And I was very, very impressed with way justin fields played week one. For Ohio state at least against the BRASSICA I said week one because like it's not week one of college football but it's week one for a house date. It's a weird gray areas whatever I also WANNA give a shout out to. The Wisconsin quarterback Graham Mertz. He killed it week one. they. They shredded Illinois. Then it's really sad because grandma has given us kind of a roller coaster of a story where he was phenomenal week one. And then he got Kobe. And because the big ten has the most stringent covid restrictions. It appears in College Football Graham Merz is going to have to be in quarantine for twenty one days meaning he's going to miss three weeks. Of College football three more games before grammars plays again it's like, Oh, I feel kinda robbed because I grammar. was becoming one of most interesting and exciting in favorite stories in college football gone taken away. We're not GONNA see in for another month basically. Because it looked like to me. Wisconsin and finally found their best quarterback Russell Wilson Russell Wilson was incredible Russell Wilson Transferred in. Russell Wilson was not recruited homegrown at Wisconsin. He was only there for one year and he bounced the NFL. Grim Merz is a redshirt freshman. He's four years of eligibility and he looked phenomenal Graham Mertz Oh, my Gosh I've been waiting for so long Wisconsin's always been good program. They run the ball. Well, I've always said if you're a quarterback in high school. And you look at it program like Wisconsin. Or Lsu they have everything they just need a quarterback and you're confident your ability go there dominate their and Justin Mertz looks like that guy. Where he made great decisions and completed all of his easy pass the sheriff screens easy out route stuff like that. But grandma was completing not just easy stuff was completing hit a gray ball down the left sideline. He had to throw for touchdown where he he throws it high up top of the end zone makes his guy go up and get it perfect ball location. That's an NFL throw. I am really really curious to see how Graham Mertz does. When he gets back from injury from his his from from Cova Quarantine.

"Oh my goodness. Good morning. afternoon. Whatever it is for you. I hope you're having a fantastic day. My name is Zach shomler. This is strong opinion Sports episode 283. I've got a massive massive episode for you guys. Today. We're going to talk about Justin Herbert his first start. I'm going to show a lot of film on that really proud of it will talk about the Cowboys crazy win. We'll talk about the Patriots Seahawks game. My favorite game in a long long time Mitchell trubisky Dwayne Haskins the Vikings Gardner Minshew. I mean the second week of NFL season Jose goes on and there so many things to talk about well and this show by talking about the Ohio State quarterback Justin fields, and I want to say, you know, it is in my plan at some point this week to talk about Josh Allen and Sam. Darnold. I've got a lot of questions about Sam. Darnold. What is going on with the Jets? I can't figure it out. I've got a lot of things I need to dive into and really get off. By watching tape and then Josh Allen my buddy Brett. Kollmann texted me was a couple of days ago yesterday Sunday. Maybe Brett text me goes dude. You gotta watch Josh Allen. He's unbelievably good and so I took a dive into the film and figure out what's going on with the Bills quarterback. That's not today that's coming at some point later this week. I also want to apologize. I was planning on recording this episode on Monday morning. And then on Sunday night, I became aware of the fact that there's this whole group of people that I've never properly had enough empathy for I got my grain. I don't know if you've ever had a migraine before I got one and it just really took me out of commission for a little while. I couldn't do anything my head was just throbbing. I just never had never experienced anything like it. I just I was completely useless for a while and you know people that deal with migraines consistently..

"Difference maker Have Kyle, and into the mix he has thirty starts between college and pro. So I see Alex Smith was a clear advantage and then Paul. Allen and then Dwayne Haskins again, I'm not talking about the next five years bought an opening day because of an unusual off-season, Alex Smith will give them the best chance to win. Wow that really surprises me. What do you think? I'm not totally sure I think it's one thing to get cleared to practice I. Think it's another thing to be able to. Play and compete at the highest level. That exists in this sport. So grainy everything you said about Alex Smith I agree with you I, it is remarkable how easy it would be a guy that was a number one overall pick who's made a ton of money to just walk away at that point guy that got the ability to look ahead at what the rest of his life could look like and being able to play with his kids and you know and have a normal life to be honest with you to do. What he's done is incredible that being said like I still I looked at him and he's got that sleeve on his leg and he looks like he's got some other type of contraption on it like I. Don't know that he's actually totally healthy to compete at a similar level that he was able to compete at in those starts that might referenced. So it is a great story. It's amazing by him. I'm not sure that he's ready to really be back in their Cristiano what are we hearing. What I'm hearing is that there is still a lot that Alex Smith has to show and accomplish before he is a factor in a conversation about who's going to be the starting quarterback for that Washington football team. This year all he's done so far is really work out with trainers on the side do some throwing. So the coaching staff really hasn't seen him in any kind of situation where he has to move around in the pocket where he might have to make a quick decision. You know there's a lot he still has to show with less than four weeks to go until the scheduled first game. So as great. As it would be as as much as I hate to throw any amount of even slightly cold water on any of this, I think what Mike's Projecting here is still far fetched I. Still Think Haskins the most likely to start week one, and if Alex Smith is able to come back and show that he's able to protect himself when he moves around in the pocket, then they start to have a conversation about whether he's the best option but we're a ways away from that. It'd be clear I know that's what you meant I. I know you didn't mean that if he can't play, he will play at ten seconds go. I've been the room with doctors when they've cleared players and I've always said to them if you clean them this coaching decision. So I understand what Tim and Dan said but understand this he is clear. Medically, Ron, Rivera will now make this decision and his experience could make the difference in him starting at the very look. That'll be a very interesting thing to watch I remain the president of the join Skins Fan club. I haven't given up on him I. Hope He's the starter week one meanwhile. quarterback as we continue Justin field within the last hour speaking live on ESPN radio about his petition to reinstate big ten football this fall does it have a chance? That's the question the answer is coming up next get, up on ESPN..

"In offensive efficiency this season all these games again, coming up today on ESPN Vince Carter will join us. It's a preview in fifteen minutes, but that brings us to our big story of the day. Josten field superstar Ohio State quarterback has created a petition requesting the big. Ten Conference immediately reinstate the twenty twenty football season so far it has well over two hundred fifteen thousand signatures. This is part of what it says we the football players of the big ten together with the fans and supporters of college football requested the big ten conference immediately reinstate the season allow big ten players and teams to make their own choice as to whether they wished to play or opt out this fall season allow big ten players and teams who choose to opt out of playing a fall season to do so without penalty or repercussion. So he's talking. So our parents of big ten football players questioning the decision to postpone. Are. We just now realizing that there are risks that you take to play football. There are risks in life. It's really not fair to go forward and have our sons who have worked equally as hard how their season completely cancelled while others will go on but it's just simply not right. We as parents are churches support our sons as they move through their dreams and Mike and get to their aspirations. Wow. So that's a lot to unpack and the good news is we have all the right people to do with Joey Galloway is up early. So as Paul Finebaum it, of course, we'll start with heather. Who was supposed to be on vacation today and then this happened. And had they're good enough to jump in with here. So you've got justin fields. We've got a petition we have over two hundred, thousand people signing. We have parents speaking out I. Guess The question is simple. Is there a real chance that this will create a change and we will see football in the big ten this fall? I would be shocked greedy shocked if the president's reversed course on this, the reality of the situation is this the big ten has acknowledged. It has received letters from parents. There is a lot of anger and frustration not just from parents and their sons, but also from coaches and athletic directors throughout the conference who are still trying to figure out the abrupt about-face between the big ten schedule announcement, and then less than six days later, postponing false sports to the spring, but everyone has to remember that this decision was made by university. Presidents who are all dealing with different situations and made the decision based on the advice of the big ten medical advisory panel and I'm going to bring this up because it illustrates how different it is in twenty eighteen Maryland offensive lineman Jordan McNair died from heat stroke that he suffered at a practice I, do not know how Maryland President voted but I can tell you from covering that story for over a year that Maryland is one school that can not afford to gamble whatsoever with the health of its student athletes. So everyone. Is dealing with different situations on their own campus says, and while Ohio state has a lot of money resources and privilege to take care of those student athletes, everyone has to remember that those presidents are making those decisions based on what they have to work with also could be making them individually. One of the things that I took from reading those words in Justin's fields position, and we all sat here and crushed Nebraska for to go out on their own. But one of the things that he said is not only let the. Players make up their own minds, but let the schools make up their own minds. So if there were schools that wanted to play I, think we are all of the opinion I don't know the details that there were schools that voted to continue playing and they were just outvoted in this. Is it unreasonable to say that the schools that would like to continue that have players that would like to continue could go on even if the entirety of the big ten did not heather is that is that even in the realm of possibility? Well. Honestly. It's a question that I would have to ask Big Ten, Commissioner Kevin Warren but I do think that it. It could be in the realm of possibility if you have a majority of schools that want to do that look in this spring, we talked about the possibility of a conference moving on if one or two teams couldn't play Michael Rest go the commissioner of the American Athletic Conference told me Hey yeah, we were willing to. Do that. So I don't know necessarily that power five conference couldn't do that. The question is how many could and that's one of the things pairs race to me. They said, look we can have our players opt out why can't entire schools opt out if they don't feel safe. Okay. So there's the table set for us Paul Finebaum I'm giving you the floor. We've got players high super high profile player. We have parents who have people angry. What does it mean? It means that this is a public relations nightmare for the big ten in green need they did it to themselves. Yes. They announced the schedule and came right back and canceled and the biggest problem. The Big Ten has had is they didn't explain their reasoning Kevin warranted did has done one interview, one major television interview with the big ten network and quite frankly it was embarrassing he was not authentic. He was not transparent. It looked like he was trying to cover for the president's which he may very well have been in since then a lot of this has just blown up and he has not gotten control of it. It's also worth remembering this is his first year on the job he took over for Jim Delany, whose was there for twenty five years and was legendary and that really is their. Biggest issue right now, they have no messaging and on top of that guess what's happening today in the SEC greedy. The SEC is releasing its schedule. They're doing it in in prime time on SEC network television they're going to trump how they're ready to play. They have a plan meanwhile everyone in the big ten is watching that and everywhere else going what's going on here and another thing the the. Momentum, and the motivation for.

"And I think a lot of dame. The problem he has he went to a high school. He wasn't controversial. He goes to Weber State. He goes to Portland which is geographically remote. They've never even had an all star game. They don't have the hotel big enough and he doesn't talk a lot. Let's his game do the talking and it's a really good franchise but Iverson. Georgetown controversy unique style but I put their numbers up next to each other, and that's with dame having former prime years unlike they look the same to me, they're look an. Ear Out of your mind, why why is are you about to go there I'm not saying he's there. Yeah, I'm saying Chris. It's not that far off in three years. This kid offensively is the best shooter right now at Steph and the entire sport. I let me think there's a lot to unpack their number one and I was talking with a scout in the league about this just yesterday. Damian Lillard and some of these other guys, CJ mccollum Damian Lillard was never you know given the superstar treatment growing up. He you said, he went to weaver state. He stayed there three years I believe, and so he's he handle the criticism when a coach stealth do this he doesn't have that ego where he can't hear you know the criticism can't be coats a lot of this generation's players who grew up as AAU superstars who went to as you said, the huge schools, they can't take the criticism I have scowl tell me he sat. Down with players and say, he said, they said, what do I need to work on and he said, well, you need to lose some weight and they've cut him off. They won't talk with him. You don't have to worry about things like that with guys like Daimler, who didn't get that superstar treatment. So that's one thing I love about it. Now as far as Alan Iverson, you really WanNa say he's better I'm saying. I'm saying in three years I'm looking at those numbers dame's got three to four great years of prime shooting left. Dame is great. There's no doubt about it. Let's see if he continues but remember Alan Iverson would an MVP MVP He led the League in scoring several years. He's the best pound for pound score rich. We've ever seen there's no doubt about that and he got a team to the finals. Lost in Five Games coaching Larry Graham but they were the one team they got game from the Lakers ain't nobody else even beat them including Tim Duncan Spurs so I I, I will not go there just yet. But here's the other thing dame now has reached that level Colin were now we're looking at. Okay. Are you going to win? Even if you know when the championship when you get close every year, you need to be close and so I think he's reaching that superstar level but slowdown on on and are you saying he's the best six footage player ever? Iverson and then let let me let me let me guess is an told us this name Isaiah. I. Like Isaiah Thomas I. Don't think he shot like this and I liked him I liked him a lot nobody at that time sound like this but Isaiah is the only person alive. That can say I'd be Jordan Bird and magic in their prime they all had top fifty teammates Isaiah didn't have one top fifty teammate no, I, get it. I like Isaiah trying to marginalize me that I don't like Isaiah Thomas I love office. All right he's the best small player ever right Cow, Steph is a small guy. Yeah. I don't all right. Good seeing anybody. Coming up next studies indicate the you the consumer, the audience. Trust, the media less than you've ever trusted them. "Therapists on apple podcasts the iheartradio APP over ever you get your costs Good to have Yan the Houston Astros won a world series a few years ago against the dodgers, the dodgers are still bitter but they have a reason to because who Houston. Cheated and stuff they knew what pitches were coming. They were banging on drums and banging on garage cans and they had this whole system worked out that eventually got their. GM in their manager fire but players did not get fired. They had immunity they were rats and they got immunity and Joe. Kelly is now a dodger and it just drives him nuts the snitch and the rats over for Houston it should be noted now Huston, his eight and ten so far. It's amazing when you don't know when the pitches are coming and what kind of pitches it. Yeah. You're not as good Jose altuve is hitting under one ninety and. The Astros were I in baseball and hitting last year another fifteenth. It's just amazing when you don't know exactly what the pitches that's coming. It's crazy how that works. nutty coincidence and Joe. Kelly is now a dodger pitcher and he got into a scrap a while back about a week or so maybe two weeks ago against the Astros, he threw it them over their head a couple of times love him for that and he went on a podcast this week and he still banging on the Astros. The people that took the fall for what happened is nonsense. Everyone's involved. But the way that thing was ran over, there was not from coaching staff it was ran with Code News, APP. Yes. Don't get me wrong but they're not they're not the head Boston charge of that thing is the players. So now the players get the immunity and all they do is go snitch like a little. And they don't have to find. They don't have to lose games. He's not wrong by the way now I I've said this before. I'm not a big snitch person, but I would be more likely to snitch as a mobster than I would be a baseball player because if you snitch in the mob and you call the feds at least you can go hide in a move to a boring town the food's not as good. There's no juice to your life but as a mobster I could rat on guys to the feds. And a lot of guys have and they just moved to a city I'd call the feds and say, listen give me a nice place in Malibu looking at the water I'll I'll sell everybody out and I don't see myself as a snitch in baseball I would not rap. Because in baseball if you rat. People. Just throw at your head for years. In fact, you could end up on the team. that. Your former team hates. And people would throw at you and you could be in the sport for fifteen years. You're Raton the mob like that picture of me you gone you're disappear. You go live in Arkansas or something like that. But in baseball. You can't. And that's why. The Astros are getting exactly what they deserve. They never considered while they cheated the repercussions here they are. The ball is hard and guys through it ninety eight, and they can throw it at you sometimes a little high and in dangerous spots. Here's more from Joe Kelley. When you take someone's livelihood to save your own ass. That's what I. Don't like cheating. They cheated. Everyone knows her cheaters. They know they're cheaters. It's over that's been there done with but now they mess it up by GonNa ruin and other people's laps. Twice when you take someone's name to save your own name I think that that is one of the worse things you could probably do it. Just really freaking bugs me like I I. Think I'll be irritated forever. He is not wrong Joe Kelley of the dodgers joy Taylor, the news. On the news, this is the headline news. Well Cam Newton is expected to be the Patriots starter this season we. We think. But football check is apparently not just gonNA hand him the job he was reportedly third in line to take quarterback reps in practice this week. Brian Hoyer was first. Injured System was second. Third is sending a message. Now I think he's just doing about check does like he has a system has a way about things got to earn your way to the top and. I would I would do pay per view to watch this. Yeah. I don't understand listen all you network executives when you're done with your four hour Martini lunches. Put. Patriots Dolphins practice I, WanNa. Watch. I WANNA watch to, why are you not televising this hour soliciting for practices I'd also like to watch tangles practice, which was not a sentence I never thought I would say in my life, but we job borough skipping balls to players. Joe. Borough I. Don't I want to watch this. Watch this over everything but the NBA Finals I wanNa Watch Cam I WANNA watch ballot check I want to watch their practice I. Well, I don't know that they want everyone watching their prime minister that's probably part of it but. When they start like inner squats scrimmage. The patriots tape everybody else exactly. This is payback you should be able to watch your practices I'm not gonNA live too much into that I. think that's just this is how they're doing things out of respect. So George Kitto will be saying in San Francisco for the foreseeable future for the agreed to a five year seventy five, million dollar contract extension with the forty niners with an average of fifteen, million a year. This deal will make him the highest paid Titan in the NFL by far Hunter Henry is the second highest paid He's the franchise tag for ten point six million. And Austin Hooper signed a four year forty, two, million, ten, point five, million for years about five million more more per year for George get owner Jason He's underpaid I. Think we've reached a time in the NFL. where? The tight end is as valuable as the wide receiver. You remember we had. On a couple of weeks ago, and he was talking about his podcast interviews, tight ends, and he mentioned this that kittle is the one who has to set the market for ends because you're right tight ends. A great tight ends like Kiddo like Gronk, in his prime who's in a super bowl, two teams to the best the two best tight end in football. We're both the Super Kelsey a great tight ends. I is Kinda more valuable than than a high level receiver. Do More on the field. Well, they steal. Other thing they do is they blocked right and the other thing is that the most important NFL games in December January bad weather that often takes the vertical essence of football out until you get to a super bowl and the dome or the warm weather, the wildly important and. How big was Gronk two years ago? How big? Yeah. Shelve himself and he was he was the difference maker in that Super Bowl. So yeah, it's good. That will obviously he deserves this this. This may become more of a trend that he had set the market for high level tight ends and I I honestly feel like they could really make a strong argument that they're more valuable than than your top receivers with a lot of offenses abs especially with a young quarterback joy they will say the tight ends they don't do the volume because the position is different obviously, but they're still extremely valuable. So finally only one playoffs by is still up for grabs in the NBA. So most of the teams have their first round matchups sets. But the clippers are locked into the second seed in the west and doesn't think seating that important this year. It doesn't seem like sees matters I mean. Just like tonight we inverted so's for the traveling Eric. Altitude. Other using..
